Kinsale, Ireland restaurants

We will be in Kinsale for 3 nights in May. We heard the food is great. What are your 3 top restaurant choices?

Hi guys....we liked the Blue Haven (hotel and resto) on the main street..great seafood salads. The oysters are tops, too
The Wine Bar (forgot the full name) was also a good choice with ambience. (two nights did it for us)
Altho Kinsale and its harbor are very colorful and enjoyable, I can't imagine any more than two nights there, with so much more to see and do further west...IMO(since you have already been out to Galway, Connemara peninsula, Dingle, etc.)

stu----thanks for the reply. There are several reasons for the 3 nights. We will not get there until later in the day for the first night, we want to use it as a base to explore a little west of there the next day, and MDH wants to golf(I'll shop) the next day. After a few 1-2 night stays, we like to relax a bit. We love driving around Ireland, but the part I don't like is changing B & B's every day or two and living out of a suitcase. This will be the only 3 night stay of our trip.

That said, I'll look into the Blue Haven and Wine Bar. We heard the food was good in Kinsale, but I don't know how it can top "Mulcahy's" in Kenmare----we'll see.

We enjoyed Fishy Fishy and Man Friday. Which I always point out is right across the street from a wonderful pub, The Spaniard. Last March I had a lovely cottage rantal right across the street and really enjoyed exploring the area.

sheri_lp What a cute cottage. If we were going to be there longer, it would be a lovely place to stay. As it is, we will be staying at Desmond House for the 3 nights. We'll keep it in mind if we go back. This is our second trip to Ireland in 8 months, so I guess we like it.

We're checking all of these restaurant suggestions and will ask our B & B host to make reservations ahead of time.

I was only there for four nights and stayed in the smaller Marian's Cottage. Have a great time, I loved going around exploring all the back roads, and found this cool Victorian-era tower

Let me check the map, I had a couple of days of cruising the backroads and passed this great old red brick house, and followed the road up the hill a bit and there it was. I'm sure I'll be able to find it for you.

Thanks, Tower. Yes, a bit NE of Kinsale, I just located it on Google maps:

If this link is shite (going Irish now lol) There's a little crossroad between Cullen and Silveroe. You can get a streetview shot of the old red house I mentioned, and it's up that dirt track. I happened to pass a farmer and he told me the thing was about 100 years old.

sheri_lp, I looked at the rest of your Ireland photos. They are great and in particular, I like the "cloud" photos.

Thanks Tpayt. I love chasing clouds with my camera. In Scotland I was fascinated with trees and the earth mounds (raths) and thought I'd gone Druid.

Dear Sheri

Just asking what restaurants you did visit and recommend in Kinsale? We are a family of 4, and will be there in June. Any suggestions on where to stay?

Ta

Hi Ta,

The Man Friday restaurant was recommended by a local, and has a lovely setting on the water with family style service (putting down bowls of vegetables, etc on the table) and I mentioned the Fishy Fishy Cafe. I also quite liked the pubs in town for lunch, I don't think you could go wrong in any of them.

I have stayed in the Old Bank Hotel (beautiful and pricey, but split among three of us) and also stayed in the cottage. You might contact Mark Houston who owns/manages several cottages, he might have something for you or be able to recommend something: [email protected].
