My husband and I will be in Rome for 5 days, including a 1 day trip to Naples, and want to know the best way to get around the city. We are in great shape and don't mind walking, but wondered if there is a week pass for the metro? We are doing the basic Rome sites... thanks for your help.

Oh yeah, we will be there in May and our apartment is near the Campo dei Fiori.

Yes, there is a weekly pass metro/bus/tram pass, but it's doubtful you need one. I would look at the Roma Pass instead which covers 3 days (consecutive) of transportation and free admission to two sites with discounts at other sites after the free admissions. Best value use of the pass is the Colosseum/Forum/Palantine (counts as one entrance, but you can revisit also) and the Borghese (reservations required).

The metro isn't extensive (only two lines) and not close the Campo.

There is also the Roma Pass but its not always a good deal you will have to see if it works for you. Transport and Museums and some other reduced fees. http://www.romapass.it/p.aspx?l=en

Thanks for the Roma Pass advice. I think that will be great for us. Is it easy to find a place to buy it once we arrive in Rome or do you suggest buying it ahead of time?

Being in Campo dei Fiori, you're a long way from the closest metro station. But the Roma Pass or a weekly ATAC ticket are also valid on the buses, regional trains inside Zone A, and the trams. Rome is an easy city to walk, but it doesn't hurt to be able to ride the bus home after a long day of "walking" the city.

Fortunately, the Campo area is well served by multiple buses. The 87 bus can get you to the Colosseo; the 492 directly over to the Vatican Museum area; the 62 to St. Peter's Sq... and of course, the #8 tram to Trastevere! The 116 bus cuts right through the Campo dei Fiori and can get you through downtown and over to the Galleria Borghese! Campo dei Fiori is close to Largo Argentina which is a major bus hub. The Roma Pass can be a great option. You might also consider the Roma&Più Pass. This is an "extended" version of the Roma Pass which covers the region of Lazio. If you're headed to Tivoli, for example, this pass covers your travel. And it only costs E2 more than the Roma Pass. It is also sold at the PTI's (Tourist Info Centers). Riding the bus or metro is easy in Rome - once you get acclimated. It can certainly save your feet! You might look at these two links for more info on the buses and metro systems. I would not buy the Roma Pass ahead of time, because you'll be directed to go to specific PTI's to get your pass. It's much more convenient to pick one up upon arrival at FCO - The PTI there is in Terminal 3 arrivals and opens at 9 AM. ( a picture is here on this link: http://tinyurl.com/FCO-meet)

There is a convenient PTI on the opposite end of Piazza Navona from you and one on Via Dei Corso- the main drag. If you arrive by train, there is a PTI in Roma Termini opposite track 24; near the rental car desks. You can purchase passes also at many newstands and free-standing kiosks. I don't think you read the post. They are not in town a full week. They are in Rome a total of 5 days and one of those days is a day trip to Naples so they really only need Rome transport for 4 days.

Then the options detailed above - with the exception of a Weekly CIS pass - would still apply. I'd position the Naples trip to still get three consecutive days if youy purchase a pass. But based on where you are staying, you may be better served just to walk to Largo Argentina and purchase a daily ticket (for €4) and use as necessary!
