I stayed at Cataratas (on the Arg side) and it was OK. Not terrible, but certainly no 4 star property like it is billed. It is more like a 3 star. But the location is good for the park and the town, if the price is right. On the other hand, there are many of hotels in the town that would allow you to walk to the various restaruants. From Hotel Cataratas you need to take a taxi.

About 3 yrs. ago we stayed on the Brazilian side in the town of Foz do Iguacu at the Mercure Int'l. We got a very good price via the net. It is now called Golden Tulip Int'l. (I found this out just now after checking on Tripadvisor. I had to check some photos before I knew it was the same hotel). It was well located and the staff was more than pleasant and friendly. Our room was on a high floor (which we requested) and although not 5*, the room was more than adequate, comfortable, quiet and clean. We parked right on the st. next to the hotel for free. Area seemed quite safe and the doormen told us we would have no problem parking there & we didn't. You can get breakfast in a large, cheery & bright D.R. with many windows. It was a buffet type w/many juices and there was plenty to choose from. Our 2nd day we returned to the hotel around 3 or 4 p.m. VERY tired after visiting the park again - this time on the Argentina side. The early Nov. weather was super!) and the large pool on lovely grounds was very inviting. So we chilled out on the lounge chairs after a swim, had a tropical drink and rested a bit. It was a great way to unwind after our day, before cleaning up, doing a bit of shopping a few streets away & getting ready for dinner that night. I highly recommend staying at this hotel if it is run anything like when we stayed there. Have a great trip!

I'd consider staying at the Sheraton in Iguasu Falls only if one of the following applied:

1) Money is no object
2) I had a deep yearning to be able to access the falls at any hour of the night
3) I was determined not to leave the Argentine National Park, even for meals.

Otherwise, the Sheraton will cost as much as four times what other hotels on the Argentine side charge. The prices for meals and other hotel services will similarly be jacked up.

On the Argentine side, between the falls and the town of Puerto Iguazu 10 miles away (and also in the town itself), there are around a dozen or so perfectly fine hotels. You also have a selection of moderately-priced restaurants in the town and in the other hotels. Inexpensive buses and taxis will take you to town and to the falls.

If you were going over to the Brazilian side, the same applies: the super expensive Hotel Cataratas is inside the Brazilian National Park, while lots of less expensive places dot the road and there also are a number located in the city of Foz do Iguaçu 15 miles away.

When we visited, we overnighted on the Brazilian side. We paid around US$70/night at the Hotel Florença, a place comparable to a Best Western in the United States. It's less than ten minutes drive from the Brazilian falls in a taxi or, as we did, a tourist bus (which was free to us because we'd purchased tickets on the Macuco boat tour).

In theory a guest in the Sheraton or the Brazilian Cataratas (there's an Argentine Hotel Cataratas too, but it's not like its opulent cousin and not inside the national park) can go down to the falls at any hour, since the hotel is located inside the park gates, which close around 6 p.m. to everyone else.

Whether you really, really will want to go down to the falls at night, at a cost hundreds of dollars more than any other hotel, is another question. You still need to eat, sleep and do your toilet. Whether you'll get all that much out of visiting the Iguasu River and falls after dark is something only you can decide.

Happy travels, and let me know if I can help further!

David

Like capitien, we chose not to stay in the Sheraton. Had we been there only 1 night, however, that would have been our choice - for the sheer convenience and time saving factor.

We preferred to spend our 2 nights in a hotel in Puerto de Iguazzu and take taxis to the Falls (both sides, different days)- and the bus to the Falls was just down the street, as well.

We enjoyed the town, the culture, the restaurants etc. So staying in town was a good choice for us. Others have remarked on the splendor of seeing the Falls from their rooms - so individual decisions.

Enjoy the glorious Falls - no matter where you decide to stay.

We stayed at the Sheraton in a falls view room. If I had it to do all over again, I would still stay there, but not in a falls view room. The reason: You are not in your room enough time to justify the higher room rate. The downstairs restaurant where you will eat breakfast (included) and may have the dinner buffet, also has a magnificent view (at no extra charge).

Maybe you can get the Sheraton Iguazu on points, which is what I did. Try to see if there's a Starwood credit card offer, which includes a lot of free points. I loved staying there, and would love to be back in Iguazu. But you can't access the falls any time of day or night - the park hours are limited.

We recently stayed at the Sheraton in a renovated room. I think it's worth paying extra for the view of the falls even though you have a magnificent view from the restaurant as someone said above. Our travel agent (WowArgentina) got us a great deal and gave us good tips on what to do there. We had considered Loi Suites but we chose Sheraton for its location.
