Any suggestions for our evenings in Jordan?

My husband and I are headed to Jordan later this month. Thanks to all the previous and upcoming Jordan travelers who have posted. Your comments have been very helpful with my trip planning. We've arranged a one week private tour with guide to show us the sights in and around Amman, then on to Petra, Wadi Rum and Dead Sea. Our days will be spent with the guide so we have no evening plans.

Assuming that we have time and energy to go out after a full day of touring, do you have any suggestions of restaurants for dinner or places to walk around in the evening? In Amman in particular where we will have 3 nights at the Marriott. In Petra we are staying at the Movenpick and at Marriott at the Dead sea - if you have dinner suggestions in or near these hotels please let me know. Open to different types of cuisine (well, let's say I'm willing to try) and pricepoints.

We are camping in Wadi Rum at Jabal Rum. I know my options are limited there! I've never camped before so if anyone has any tips or advice to share, please pass those along too. Thanks!

In Petra, check out the Petra Kitchen (about a block away from the Movenpick) and see if you can get in on one of their evening cooking classes (includes dinner itself). Loads o' fun.

We too are staying at the Marriott at the Dead Sea-in October. I can't remember where I got this info-I am always researching. But at Evason Ma'in Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa they have a wonderful menue and if you go to dinner at sunset time they said you can see the lights of Jersalum in the didtance. Hope this helps Chris

In answer to my own question, for future travelers, I suggest checking out Rainbow Street in Amman. The street is about a mile long and has cafes, Middle Eastern local and chain food places, ice cream shops, western style/motif restaurants (a diner), etc. One night we went to Books@Cafe (free wifi) and sat on the roof outside and had dessert. We also had great gelato at Dorado a few doors down. Another night we ate at the Italian restaurant Cantaloupe. Food was good, not great, prices "western" but not expensive and nice to sit outside with view of the Citadel.

There was another area recommended to me that had more shopping and some restaurants, which I think were more local and international fast food options. I recall the neighborhood was something that sounded like "I'll walk a lot" street because that's how I remembered it if I needed to tell the taxi driver.
