Delta Sky club-50% off
Groupon is offering 50% off a one day Delta Sky Club. this is thru the DC Groupon, but I assuming other cities would have the same offer. Offer is good at any Delta Sky Club

My point??? Simply that there was an offer to buy a pass for 50% off--it did not have to be used that day or I would have never posted. I recently asked on here how to get discount one day passes to various Airlines Clubs. Another thread recently actually even had to do with buying Delta club passes. So now I ask u, what his your point?

If you would have provided the link that showed the coupon and its availability time, that would have been much more helpful to those folks that might have taken advantage of it.
Although I can be faulted for many things, I am meticulous (anal?) for specifics. Not everyone knows about Groupon, much less how to find it, nor understand why it would be useful.
There was a nice segment on the local CBS affiliat in San Francisco (CBS5) a few months ago, about how Groupon coupons can overwhelm a smaller business or entity.
If this Groupon deal could help me, the average Fodor Forum user, please give me specifics, and then I will thank you profusely.

I still don't GET this groupon thing. According to their web site, offers are posted, but I only get it if enough people join that day -- so I'm supposed to pass the offer on. How would that help me if I'm flying out today and want a 50% off coupon for a one day Delta pass?
How many other people have to join for something to be vallid? When do you know if its vallid? How do you know? When does one get the actual coupon to use? Is it a paper coupon or just a coupon code that one gives to Delta? So many unanswered questions.
Was that why you posted <yestravel>, to get others to join so the groupon would work? As Rastaguy says, more explanation for the novice would be appreciated. Thank you.

No, that is not why I posted--didn't even think about others joining. Didn't even sing up for the Delta club pass. And if I did need others to sign up to get something, I would have noted that in my post.. probably in the title to get attention. My post was short cause it was written quickly - but I thought gee, maybe some Fodorites might like this-posted it and ran out the door. That's it, no ulterior motive.
Given that I've been on this board even years before the date in my profile, it never occurred to me that people would think I was doing anything underhanded.
As I understand groupon it works like this -- U join groupon for your respective location. Usually they have offers that are local--certs to use at restaurants over a certain # of months (for example I got $40 worth of food for $20 at a local restaurant. It's good for 4 months), facials at a discount, events such as plays going on with discounts. Contrary to what Rastaguy reported I have never seen one that must be used that day--could be what is offered in my area is different than what is offered in my area (DC). I don't know the number of people that has to sign up, but the few groupon offers that I have used, I got notice around midnight that night that my deal was waiting for me. I sign into my account and I get to a coupon that I print out and take to wherever the discount is within the time frame. I've only been signed up for maybe a couple months, so I don't have lots of experience with it. Perhaps others can explain more. I vaguely remember reading something maybe in the lounge about groupon -- do a search u may find more info.

Yestravel, I wasn't accusing you of being underhanded. I truly wondered if that was why you posted, to validate the coupon for yourself and anyone else who wanted it. I just had no idea how the whole thing worked. Still not totally sure, but your explanation makes it a bit more sensible.

Although you will typically sign up to get Groupon offers for your own location, you can get them from any location. Thus, when I was visiting Minneapolis, I started looking at Groupons for Minneapolis.
For something like the Delta SkyClub offer, it`s almost certain that they`ll get the minimum required number of people very quickly. And I think it`s so far always been the case that this Delta SkyClub offer is good at a number of lounges, and not just one particular city. So, for example, in this case where it was offered to Atlanta consumers, anyone in any city could buy it, and you could (probably) use it at any SkyClub (but double-check that part).
To make a long story short, I took advantage of a similar Groupon offer a few weeks ago for the Delta SkyClub that was sent to Minneapolis users (but again available to anyone), and I was able to enjoy the SkyClub. Yestravel was just trying to be helpful.
I`ve never seen a Groupon that has to be used `that day`, but they do typically have to be purchased the same day they are offered, and the special expires at midnight in the relevant city.

You have to give you payment info at the time you sign up. There is a minimum number of participants that must sign up, or the groupon just dies and you are not charged anything. If they get the rquired no of people, you get one.
If you sign up, and know others who may be interested, you should definitely pass on the info to others. it will help you get one, and if you thought it was a great deal, likely others will too.
If anyone ever sees an offer like this for ANNUAL club memerships for Continental (or United) PLEASE, PLEASE let me know.
BTW, my Chase Visa card offered two Continental one day passes for 2500 points ($25). I seem to recall they have other club passes as well.

Will & lcuy--thanks for your clear explanantions of the groupon process. And Will, thanks for realizing I was just trying to be helpful as I rushed out the door that day! I was beginning to think this falls under the no good deed goes unpunished or whatever that expression is.
