Where to Go in the Month of January in Europe and have good weather???
I was hoping someone could help me out with some suggestions for a good place to go in Europe in January and have good weather. We were actually thinking of renting a place through VRBO for the month of January. Anyone have any good ideas we would really appreciate it.

I spent the month of January in Madrid in 2000, and I found it quite comfortable. Of course, my home town has an average January high of 33 degrees F, and an average low of 21 degrees F, so maybe it depends on where you live.
One weekend I went to Sevilla and another to Granada, which were both a bit warmer.
If I wanted to get away from our nasty January weather again, I'd go so Spain.

I spent a week in Antibes late January once. Weather was very pleasant....light jacket during the day, few more layers after dark. We had a wonderful trip.
We did research weather and found Southern France to be milder than other areas in Europe we assumed would have warmer temps.

It will be winter anywhere in Europe. What do you consider "good weather"? It won't be beach weather almost anywhere. For warm you need tropical or north Africa or southern Hemisphere areas.
If you really mean "semi-pleasant-ish", parts of southern Europe will just about make the cut.

But even southern Med has been experiencing very unpredictable weather patterns in recent winters. Costa del Sol, usually mild and sunny, has seen snow, flooding, sub-zero temperatures, made worse by the fact that many buildings have inadequate heating, with central heating only at high-end hotels. Private rental places are unlikely to keep you warm, with stone floors and walls.
I'd stay in cities like Seville, where even if the weather is bad, there is enough cultural life going on to keep you busy and entertained.

Oh - I totally agree. I personally wouldn't go anywhere in Europe for nice winter weather. But if someone lives in Fairbanks it might seem balmy
I LOVE going to Europe in winter - but weather just doesn't factor into the equation for me.

Consider Menton, France, just across the border from Italy. I understand that lots of Brits winter there--or used to. It's supposed to be a kind of micro climate making it warmer than its surrounds. Check averages and records for the places you are looking at on weather.com, or on wunderground.com

You should visit Europe sometime. It sounds like you've never been here.

Some winter in Cyprus, Malta or Southern Spain, Canaries, Southern Morocco - places like that where average temps in Jan are in the region of 15C.

There are no regions in continental Europe that could be compared to typical US snowbird destinations like Florida or Arizona. The continent is simply sitting too far north for that.
The southernmost part (Southern Spain) is roughly the same longitude than the VA/NC stateline - even though the weather in Southern coastal Spain will be more like spring than winter. But spring can also mean some rain, cooler temperatures, and - as during the last two winters - some freezing temperatures.
I'd make sure that the vacation rental has proper heating. I always found it necessary in the evening even when daytime temps were around 20C/70F - and I do NOT used to a hot climate.
