Is there a Bus or Train from Sacramento to San Francisco?
Couldn't get reasonable flights into San Francisco, so my daughter and I are flying into Sacramento. I would prefer to not have to rent a car. Is there a bus/train that could get us into San Francisco, even a commuter bus.

There is a Greyhound bus - may be not safe.
Amtrak - don't know how to get there from the airport, if you search "ground transportation" of the airport, maybe the answer is there? Shuttle? Taxi?
If using Amtrak, buy a ticket to San Francisco, your stop will be Emeryville, and at the station a connecting bus (included in the ticket price) will be waiting for you.
But let's hope somebody knows about a direct bus or something...

Nothing from the airport to San Francisco - at least nothing a mere mortal could afford. There are flights to SFO but they may cost more than your original fare.
You'd have to get into downtown Sacramento (and that would be by cab or super shuttle) and then take the Cap. Corridor amtrak train HTTY linked to Emeryville. There they transfer you to a bus (included in the fare) into SF.
Unless you got a REALLY great fare -- all the extra travel/time including getting into Sacramento might make it just as expensive as flying into SFO or OAK.

Greyhound is worse than amtrak since the depot is also in downtown Sacramento and you'd still have to take a cab - but it is not a place you want to hang around.
There is a bus into Sacramento - not a Sacramento bus, but a Yolo county commute bus. It doesn't run very often. No other public transport at SMF.

Yes - like I mentioned - Yolobus once an hour. But it doesn't stop at the Amtrak station. 8th and J Sts is as close as it gets. So if you catch the timing right and if you can walk 4.5 blocks w/ your luggage, it's an option.

Try to take the Amtrak connection to SF. As mentioned above, you would leave the train in Emeryville and board an Amtrak bus into downtown SF. There are several stops in the city. For example, we have left the bus on Market Street, which is handy for hotels in the Union Square area. We have also left the bus at the Hyatt Regency in the Embarcadero. Very handy and your best option, after comparing taxi to downtown Sacto and Amtrak to SF.
