Tickets for (just) Doge's Palace - where to purchase in advance

Hi all. Is there a website to just purchase tix for a self tour of the Doge's Palace? We don't need a combination ticket for other museums, tours, etc.

I researched threads on the Secret Itineraries tour, and I think it would be too long for my boys (and too hot for me). I have already toured the Palace - this will be a first time visit for my kids and husband.

(I noticed something odd on all Secret Itineraries threads here. All of them were closed after about 5-6 replies. I wonder why? There was no rudeness or advertising on any of them).

Since April of this year 2010, I don't beleive that it is possible to by just a Doge's Palace admission. You have to buy either the San Marco Museum Plus Pass or the Venice Museum Pass. San Marco Plus gives you admission to all the Piazza San Marco Museums (but not the Basilica) plus one other city museum.

the Museum Pass is for all the city Museums.

www.veniceconnected.com sells both

Here's the official Palazzo Ducale site:

I did a quick search and see threads with 7, 10, 19 responses so I'm not sure what you searched on. There may be more threads with itinerary spelled incorrectly. Many people on this board don't seem able to spell this word.

Sometimes when the same question is asked over and over people don't bother to respond so there may be threads on this topic with minimal responses.

Thanks, notbob. I would like to see the Canovas in the Correr, so I could get some use out of a San Marco pass.

You are quite literal, adrienne. If you check those threads with 7, 10, 19, or minimal, responses, many of those have been closed to further replies. I found it odd.

I see what you mean. The offensive post(s) would have been removed by the editors. Sometimes the editors close threads that get out of hand but it doesn't happen very often any more. Advertising posts that get reported are removed and the thread stays open.

As to the closed posts--
I just noticed this a day or two ago, too, with other threads with some other countries. I haven't looked at the threads you mentioned yet.

I suspect that if people have been posting with different aliases and Fodors finds out, offensive or inoffensive, doesn't matter, they'll now close the post associated with another alias to new replies (see last posting rule in the link "Why?"--it's rather subtle, isn't it?).

In one way it's a shame because some really helpful people switch names over time only to avoid confusion with another person with a similar name or to get away from a "stalker" poster as an alternative to leaving the board entirely.

However, the rule may be the reason why fewer people are getting out of hand, and since participation here is free, after all...

Anyway, back to your question. Yep, NotBob is correct. I can offer one additional link for the TickItaly site which might be helpful:
http://www.tickitaly.com/tickets/dog...ce-tickets.php

As you said, it's not all bad news. If nothing else, the Museo Correr complex is a good place for AC, a clean bathroom, and a refreshing drink in their cafe out of the sun.

I'm in your corner as far as the Secret Itineraries tour. My teen daughter and I had made up our minds ahead of time that we were not doing the tour, and once we exited the palace, we said, "OMG! We would have died!"

I'm trying to order tickets on line and I need to provide a Codice Fiscale.

I checked I do not have one, so I am prompted:

Please provide a valid ID number. Es. ID document n. 01234321

Do they mean passport number?

I provided my passport number because I was similarly confused. However, I read elsewhere later (sorry, I don't remember where) that it's sufficient to just put in a "0" because it doesn't apply to us (at least in my case, as a USA'r). Sorry I don't remember more details....

I don't know about whether or not it's required (I don't recall needing one to order Venice Connected passes), but I did find a "Codice Fiscale" code generator (unofficial) that you could use if your purchase does not go through without one:

http://www.freeonline.org/codice_fiscale_dtml.

and here is another blog that explains that a bit more how to do that number generator:

However, in your shoes, there's certainly nothing left to lose by entering "0" before trying anything else.

Thank you, beeswing and Alessandra. I spent about 30 mins. trying to figure this entire process out. I e-mailed them, and they told me to put in my passport number. Then my credit card was denied, even though my credit card issuer said there was no problem with my card. I ended up paying though PayPal.

Karen--This is good to know for everyone else, so your pain was at least other readers' gain. Thanks for telling us what happened.
