Has anyone done this? It is very confusing to book online and want to know if there is anyone out that that can help me with this, travel agent, booking, etc. The Budget Europe Travel guy said they cannot book this..just trains.

Try looking at www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry/rail-and-sail/holland.

It is complicated because the accommodation on the ship needs to be booked with Stena Line, but they will have to post the train ticket to you so that you can get to the ship. If you are in the Netherlands before you travel, you should be able to book it there.

You can't book an inward one-way at Stena Line's .co.uk site, because this only books one-ways and returns strting in the UK.

You need to use their Dutch (.nl) site. You need to use the Dutch version, as the option 'from any Dutch station' disappears when you switch it to English (yes, really!).

But don't worry!

Simply go to www.seat61.com/Netherlands.htm, find the 'how to buy tickets starting in Amsterdam' section, and follow my step by step instructions.

Think of it as a challenge! The prices are excellent, the service great, and it'll save an expensive hotel room in Amsterdam or London.

Make sure the train you choose from Amsterdam to Rotterdam is a normal IC train not the Fyra - or you will pay extra, and that won't be refunded by Stenaline.
Book an evening meal maybe but forget breakfast, have a few minutes extra in bed and have breakfast on arrival.

So I went on the Dutch Stenaline site and attempted to buy the tickets from Amsterdam to London. I was about to check out any them my internet connection was lost.

I choose
two night train and ferry tickets
two adults
comfort cabin (I think...I didn't see the captains cabin on the bottom of the list so I think this was it)
no dinner or breakfast

Is this all I need on the site in order to get from the ferry dock, to the train, then to London?

I know I have to buy my own train ticket to Rotterdam and then to Hoek Van Holland. You said I can just show up and get a ticket for these trains. Are they expensive? I know that Stenaline will offr refund..for both or one?

Then I leave from Hoek Van Holland on the ferry and get to Harwich, then take a tran from Harwich to London. Is this train ticket included?

Sorry for all of the questions! I just want to get the right tickets and it is hard to do in Dutch

If you've selected 'Hoek van Holland to London', then it covers both the ferry Hoek to Harwich & the UK train Harwich to London.

If you've selected 'Elk station NL' (Any Dutch station') to London, it covers the train in Holland from anywhere to Hoek, the Hoek-Harwich ferry with cabin, and the UK train Harwich to London.

Use Google tranlate if you get stuck with any Dutch, that's what i do (if my Dutch wife isn't nearby!)

so choose the 'Elk Station NL' then, because then it covers everything and then I do not have to get anothr train from Amsterdam to Hoek.

And I am choosing the bottom selection for rooms that says 'Comfort Cabin'?

Just take a train - high speed to Brussels, then Eurostar to London - takes hardly any time at all and if booked well in advance (the Eurostar only) it is not that expensive. From AMS to brussels just buy it on the day, no advantage in buying in advance.

Wobbers, the cheapest fare from Amsterdam to London by Eurostar is around £70 one-way, takes 5 hours of daytime time, then you have to pay for a hotel.

The train & ferry is overnight so actually savs time over flying or daytime high-speed trains, costs from just £57 and saves a hotel bill as that fare includes a private en suite cabin with beds, toilet and shower. It's getting more and more popular!

Is this still viable? We're looking to take a train from Stockholm to Kobehavn to Amsterdam and on to London. The train from Amsterdam and on in to London by ferry, sounds intriguing. Once in England, where should we stay to conveniently get to the Queen Mary 2, for our transatlantic voyage back to the states June 24, 2012? (We have a one-way flight booked from the States to Stockholm to start this adventure. Iceland Air had the only reasonable one-way flight.)

Take the ferry it can be great fun (unless they have hordes of school kids) and far more sensible than training all the way around

I have been reading Seat61 and others including Stena.com, and I am still confused on the total fare from Amsterdam to London. In some places it seems the price is €45, but in other places it mentions a fare of €17.50 from Amsterdam Centraal to Hoek.

My question is: what the heck is the TOTAL fare from Amsterdam to London?

Anybody know for sure?

Prices vary by source and when you book them, like airlines
