Hello,
I'm looking for a quiet undeveloped (un-overdeveloped) island for a short vacay with my husband. We enjoy going to Captiva in Florida, to give an idea of what we like. We don't need shopping or night life.

Interested in:
*quiet
*secluded
*no high-rise condos
*pretty, peaceful beach with clear water
*a cute little town area to eat (but doesn't have to be gourmet) and walk around
*maybe some bike/walking paths
*a clean place to stay

Just about all of the Bahamas Out-islands will meet your expectations. For starters check out Cape Santa Maria on Long Island and Fernandez Bay on Cat Island.

Staniel Cay or Harbor Island, Bahamas. There is no real tow to speak of but Anguilla has spectacular beaches and to die for restaurants.

You will have a great, relaxing time in Anguilla Michael! It's a wonderful island. As far as restaurants, don't miss Blanchard's, Mango's and Picante!

You have some great suggestions there with Hopetown, Abaco and Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Those would be in my top choices! I would add: Green Turtle Cay and Great Guana Cay in the Abacos or the island of Culebra, Puerto Rico. The Abaco towns would all have bike rentals or golf cart rentals as well as at least a few restaurants/bars to get to easily. I love Staniel Cay but there is no town at all and you don't mention wanting to rent a boat which is the highlight of that location to me. I also love Long Island but if you stayed at Cape Santa Maria or at Stella Maris there would be no town to walk around and only the resort restaurant at each for meals unless you rented a car or took cabs. I have been to Eleuthera and to Harbour Island but I think the others sound more like what you say you want. I have not been to Captiva in many years but it was a small,casual and laid back place the times I went- I am sure it has grown a lot but maybe its ambiance has stayed the same? If not then my suggestions may be off!

I agree with the above posters, the Out Islands of the Bahamas are exactly what you're looking for... miles of gorgeous unspoiled beaches, quaint communities, fresh delicious food, friendly folks and they're just a short flight away.
