Can anyone recommend a hotel on a street that is not closed off when there is a baseball game at Camden Yards in Baltimore? I understand the streets by some hotels are closed on a game day and I want to avoid this, after a long drive I just want to drive to the hotel and park.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The only one I know of that might be closed off at game time would be the Hampton Inn on Washington Blvd. Do you need to stay near the ballpark for some reason? There are plenty of hotels in downtown Baltimore, and only about 3 or 4 are right by the ballpark.

Thanks Smetz for your response, I don't have to stay right by the ballpark, a short walk would be fine. I did read posts about the Hampton Inn's street being closed off on a game day and I wanted to know if any other hotels had there street closed off too.

aranda, you also have a new Hilton, and the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards, both of which are just to the north of the Camden/Eutaw Street entrance to the ballpark. Then there is also a Sheraton at Charles and Conway Streets which is about two blocks to the east of the park. There is also a Holiday Inn on Lombard Street at Howard Street which is very close by. And actually it's very nice as Holiday Inns go.

Wait a minute, you aren't a Yankee or Red Sox fan, are you?

The Hilton is a great location. You can see the field from the exercise room and pool.

The only good thing about being an Orioles season ticket holder in recent years is the ability to defer the cost by selling your tickets at outrageous prices to desparate Red Sox and Yankee fans.

Apparently you can get to the Hampton Inn on game days, they give specific directions:

As a Red Sox fan, Im glad to have the Orioles in the same division but as a baseball fan, what Angelos has done to the team is despicable. Things are starting to look up for them and I hope they do. I love Camden Yards, having been there at least 2 games every year for the past 3 years. (and haven't been gouged by any Orioles fans for tickets...)

With the Orioles training in Sarasota, I need to get down to my parents (near Sarasota) soon. My dad works for Sarasota County and goes past their Spring Training Complex quite a bit.

Smetz, you're picking on me, but you're all right! I knew if I said which team I'm for I might never get an answer which is why I tried to keep that on the down low. But now that you all figured it out . . . . .

My husband is a big time baseball fan, more into the art of the sport than a specific team, actually he's addicted. As I love boats and water and we can't afford tickets to Yankee stadium, Baltimore seemed perfect. More fan friendly.

Another question (don't hate me), does anyone know what hotel the Yankees stay at when they play Baltimore?

That's ok, aranda, it's not your fault. It's interesting, when the Birds first moved to the new stadium in the early 90's it had something like 8 straight years of sell-outs. And Angelos owned the team for several years of that period, and the teams fall isn't 100% his fault. They had horrible luck with free agents in the late 1990's (remember Glenn Davis & Albert Bell), then when they tried to rebuild they had horrible luck with draft choices ("Tater" Ben Macdonald, Adam Loewen). But Angelos' meddling and penny pinching has just made a bad situation worse.

Maybe someday they'll get it straightened out, but until then DancingBear & I will just have to tip our hats to the Yank & Sox fans.

I have heard what hotel the Yankees stay at, and I can't remember for sure, but I think it's the Renaissance, which is at the Inner Harbor.

The Yankees and the Orioles had a great rivalry in the early 90's, similar to what the Yanks have now with Boston. The AL East is a tough place division probably the toughest in all of baseball but the Orioles are an up and coming team. Markakis, Jones and Reimold are a great young outfield, Weiters is the next big thing, if you can get Roberts back and healthy you should be in good shape. You'll need to work on your pitching staff but your a much better team than last year, and we're anticipating you winning more games against Tampa Bay, Boston, and NY. Good luck have a good season

The Red Sox definitely stay at the Renaissance. I assume the Yankees do too, even though they should have to stay at a Motel 6.

1 thing to consider is to take Amtrak to Baltimore. You don't need a car in Baltimore. Would save on the hotel parking but watch the times

Go to the Maritime Museum and the USS Constellation. We spent a lot of time on it. Would also recommend taking the water taxi to Ft McHenry.

Lots of baseball talk you guys, being married to an obsessive possessed baseball fan/freak I finally got him to read some Fodor's posts.

tchoiniere- I read your trip reports, thanks. Very helpful. We are staying two days so we can get in some of your suggestions.

smetz- you rock.

We live on a budget so all these tips help. Hotels are sooo expensive though. I think we may have to pass on the Renaissance, and go for the Holiday Inn, but as Holiday Inns go even that is expensive.

My husband said to leave our Yankee baseball hats and shirts at home, as people will throw beer at us. That true?

First, we Oriole fans are not the louts you might find in cities further NE of Baltimore. Second, we have become so demoralized as to be unable to sustain an appropriate level of rage at our free-spending and much more successful competitors and their fans. Third, you will likely be surrounded at Camden Yards by others in Yankee hats and shirts--it will be the O's fans who will cowering.

Aranda, you will be fine wearing them. Have never seen an issue while wearing a Sox shirt and hat there. Have always found Orioles fans (While few and far between at times) to be very respectful and willing to talk baseball. Be respectful to them and enjoy it.

Sox / Yankees series in Baltimore are very busy so that is why the rates are so expensive. In the end, its worth it to stay there so you can just walk to the game and enjoy the Harbor. Lots of people watching for sure.
