Apartment Review - Budapest

We (2 adults and 2 teenage daughters) recently returned from 7 weeks in Europe, which included 6 days in Budapest.. In Budapest we stayed in the Golden Star Dream Apartment (http://www.goldenstarsapartments.com...apartment.html) and found it to be one of the three best apartments we stayed in throught our trip. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an apartment in Budapest. It is located on the 4th floor (with a lift) near the Old Market at the end of Vaci Utca, close to public transport. The apartment is newly renovated, tastefully furnished and impeccably clean. Facing onto an internal courtyard it is very quiet. The living room is spacious and has sufficient lighting to read by at night - something we often find lacking in apartments. A laptop was provided which made keeping in touch with family very easy.
The master bedroom is very large with a king sized bed while the second bedroom is smaller, with the queen bed taking up most of the space. The kitchen is narrow with an eat-in section at the end. The bathroom has a shower over the bath and also has a washing machine (great for extended travels)!
We used the optional airport transfers - which made arriving at night really easy.
The owner, Tomas, was easy to deal with over the internet and charming and helpful upon arrival.
We would definately stay here again if we returned to Budapest and have no hesitations recommending it to others!

Budapest was one of my favorite business/pleasure trips because I really kucked out and rented two adjoining apartments ("Sarah" & "Bella") in the very center of District V, or the Belvaros (City Center). District V is the heart around which the City of Budapest was built. The Building, a landmark building that I think marks the transition to Bauhaus from Art Nouveau. The feel of the building s distinctly bohemian reminiscent of left bank Paris and/or Greenwich Village New York City artists buildings. It is at #5 Szervita Square, and Szervita Square is at the very center of District 5. One block away from the Deak Square Metro hub, where all three of the city’s Metro lines intersect. I rented Sarah & Belle for 2 couples, me and my husband and my staff member and her partner. We stayed for 8 days and besides being centrally located we found it to be quiet and safe. The apartments being linked with a connecting door but with two separate entrances was perfect for two couples, enabling us to come and go w/o disturbing the other but also have a communal space during the day. There are three key areas in the apartments that we gathered in to hang out, eat, plan our work and adventures. The amenities all worked well and the furnishings are maintained at a high level. Now to what was for me the best part NO STRESS TRAVEL SUPPORT! OMG! The onsite support we received through the owner-supplied (John), excellent guides and handbooks with a local focus that he wrote himself made the trip effortless in a way I had never experienced before or since although I am very well traveled. Wherever you stay, I am sure you will love Budapest as we did and I wish you a safe and stress free trip. Please feel free to reply to ask any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them promptly.

Both recommendations are great, checked the locations of the apartments you mentioned and they are all very centric. We usually stay at B&B's, but there weren't many in Budapest. We tried not to use an agency, but were looking for something operated by locals. Have visited Budapest back in 2008 and stayed at the Astoria Residence: http://budapesting.com/_astoria_residence - just wanted to complete the list of great apartments you guys started - I highly recommend the place we stayed at and Marton's family.

A super nice apartment, managed by a local tour guide is Balcony Apartment - http://budapestapartment.co.hu The place is amazing with a spacious corner bath tub and fully equipped kitchen. The owner is very friendly and helpful, helped us to plan our stay in Budapest.

mattimom. We are staying in an apartment owned by John in Budapest in October. Although not Sarah or Bella the apartment we choose is very near to them.
You are the second person that has mentioned staying in one of these apartments and the other reference was glowing also. Added to the fact that the owner lives in the US and that made it super easy to communicate with him.
I am looking forward to our stay.

Sher, I hope you will enjoy your stay at one of the John’s apartments as much as I did. All the information John provided was very helpful. Link to my apartment review: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...and-prague.cfm
There are number of excellent reviews and recommendations of apartments Sarah, Bella and Max on TripAdvisor

Sher, btw I think we’ve met at the LDC in New York.
If it’s you – did you travel back to Portugal as I remember you were planning?

travfirst. The experience has been great already. I have rented several apartments in different places. In fact, I am looking now for Croatia.
But a lot of them are very difficult to arrange with bank transfers, etc. John has given me several options for payment, it couldn't be easier.
You are the third person who has commented on renting his apartments and I am very happy I found them.
And thanks for the links.
We are renting Olive.

My heavens. We did meet at the LDC in New York. We have returned to Portugal twice since then. And we have traveled to different parts but always spend some time in Lisbon to see our friends.
I would love to go back again but right now a friend and I are going to Krakow, Budapest and Croatia. Have never been able to talk Mr. Sher into going to those places.
Portugal is always on the back burner.
I guess I can see where you have been or are going by pulling up your screen name.
Thanks for remembering!

Hi, another apartment I can recommend is on Andrassy Avenue. In fact it is the first building on the left when you come from the centre. It is a beautiful old building and has a Costa Coffee, a bank and a small grocery in the building and the underground stops right in front of the house. It is a great location for holiday makers and business travellers.

The apartment is located on the top floor (with lift) and faces south into the courtyard. This makes it very bright and quiet (all rooms air-conditioned). The apartment has been refurbished in 2010 and has 2 double bedrooms and a nice living room with fire place and open plan kitchen. Have a look at the webpage for more information http://www.apartmentsbudapest.info

We have just returned from Central Europe and I would like to recommend the apartment we stayed in Budapest. It is a penthouse apartment on 2 levels in a beautiful building in Garibaldi Utca just up from the Parliament House and near to some good restaurants. The building has a 24hr concierge and a lift and the interior has all been recently renovated around a courtyard.
The decor is very modern and comfortable with a large living/dining area, flatscreen TV, DVD with DVD movies and separate kitchen, also a separate toilet downstairs. Upstairs is a lovely bathroom complete with bath and shower and the bedroom (with another TV) which opens out onto a furnished roof terrace area. The view is straight across the river to the castle! For all this we paid US80/night in May this year!
I found it on Tripadvisor - just search for Luxury penthouse apartment, Budapest in their Vacation Rentals section.
