Can You Still Tour and Visit the NYSE?
Anyone know if there is still the possibility to experience the exhilaration of the NYSE in action? If not, what could you recommend as a similar or near-to experience?

No. Not as exhilarating, but you can take a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank. http://www.newyorkfed.org/aboutthefed/ny_tours.html

Also, the museum of American Finance will give you a great idea of what's going on AND there's are great tours of the Wall Street area that are run by Wall Street walks.

I'd actually like to voice more enthusiastic support for the Fed Tour than mclaurie. Not only does it give you a pretty good idea how Wall Street works and how the Fed tries to regulate it, it also lets you look at the world's largest gold vault. About a quarter of all the world's gold reserves, all sitting in one spot and it's open to the public.
One warning: if you decide you want to do the tour, book early. Spaces fill up pretty far in advance.

I haven't been to the NYSE but to the pits where commodities are (were) traded. Since the advent of electronic trading, the pits aren't very interesting or lively anymore. I don't know if the NYSE is like that, but it's not near as exciting as it used to be. However, if you know someone who has a seat on the NYSE you may be able to visit through them, and i suppose it is something to see.

If your company is traded on the NYSE or you work for/with a market maker that operates on the NYSE, you may be able to secure a visit. You can also see through linkedin or facebook if you know someone who works at the NYSE.
