Snorkeling Advice- staying at Iberostar Paraiso Lindo-Akumal how far?

My wife and my 3 daughters and I will probably be staying at the Iberostar Paraiso
Lindo at the end of June.

My middle daugher and I love to snorkel and we are aware that there is no good
off beach snorkeling at the resort.

How difficult is it to get to Akumal from Iberostar Paraiso complex?
Should we ride the $4 "bus"?
Will they let us back on with wet towels and wet snorkel gear in tote bags?
Where is the best spot to enter the water- most variety of sea life?

Is there anywhere else we should go for good snorkeling?
Is it worth paying for a half day trip from the resort to a reef?
Should we try to get to Cozumel for a day and how do we go about doing that?

Many thanks in advance for your advice!!
Mark

The IB Lindo is pretty far from Akumal. You could find some decent snorkeling in Puerto Morelos which is the town nearest the IB Paraiso resort.
You could also take the shuttle from the IB Paraiso into Playa del Carmen ($4 each way) and then get the ferry to Cozumel if you want to go there. You get that shuttle right on the resort grounds at their Commercial Center. Staying at the IB Lindo, you would have privileges at the IB Cozumel and could spend the day there. Just let them know at the Lindo desk that you want to do that.
