Grenada dining...walking distance
Hello Grenada fans!
We are nearing our vacation to Grenada soon and I am beginning to narrow my questions for you all in the know of Grenada details.
Currently my head is spinning about this question...
We are renting a van to cart the family around during the mid point (for one week) of our two week vacation so we will be able to reach the further afield restaurants....what are the recommendations for that period (van rental) with a 5 year old and 3 month old?
But I am really perplexed about where to go from our hotel the Flamboyant, without the car, for dinners mostly (we are planning on some lunches at Jenny's, the spots at the grocery store mall across from GGB and the ladies on the beach) but where to walk to with the 5 year old and 3 month old for dinner and to cab back??
Complicated yes - does this question even make sense?
More details - our 5 year old is a pretty great traveller and has been known to be a good diner too as long as he has his DVD player or some good toys - which we are bringing...the 3 month old is a 3 month old so really a hit or miss but likely no repeated fine dining events for us....
Oh - finally one more detailed question - my Mum is celebrating a birthday in Grenada (sweet life no?) she would likely enjoy a dinner that is lovely but acommodating of her family with Grandchildren - we are willing to cab a while for this special dinner - recommendations please?

Thanks!! I am just being greedy...hehehe terrible eh? Always looking for more ideas despite the many fantastic suggestions I have gotten...sorry!! And thank you again for your help I have written them all down...just so excited about my trip and I want to do nothing but talk about it...silly eh?

hi, Caribheart. No, it's not at all silly to cross post on the various forums. Grenada doesn't get much action here at Fodor's, so you have to get the info every which way possible!
Other places within an easy walking distance would be the restaurant at Blue Horizons. I've had breakfast and dinner there before, and as the hotel takes children, I have to believe they're kid friendly. It's in the mid to more expensive range, I'd say.
You can also have meals at Spice Island Beach Resort--I've only had lunches there, and they're definitely on the expensive side, but they were wonderful. And also very kid friendly.
I'm pretty sure that True Blue Bay still offers complimentary pick-up and drop-off for dinner, but you'd have to check with them to make sure. While I've only had mediocre meals at True Blue, eveybody else seems to enjoy them quite a bit.

Thank you all - I didnt feel chastised orange but thank you for being concerned - I felt more sheepish at trying to milk the information - I am in that wonderful / terrible point of approaching the trip where it is so close yet so far and it is all I can think of....Thank you all!

Caribheart, you MUST go try Boots Cuisine. I'm not usually pushy in recommending things but this one that I insist on being pushy. 
I think you're the type of traveler who would definitely appreciate the food and the hospitality of Boots & Ruby. I know ejcrowe would agree with me!

Hi mymoosie - don't worry it is absolutely on the top of my list...can you tell me if I have the right idea?
Is Boots a restaurant run out of the home of Boots and Ruby? Is it a set meal at a pre planned price? How far is it from Flamboyant? Should we drive there with the rental or have a cab get us there and back?
We are so excited...Grenada is so lovely and it is so funny how we have ended up travelling to this island again - we looked at it as an option in the spring but there wer no packages listed and the flights were so expensive we felt there was no hope. Then we overlooked Air Canada in favour of Signature because we know AC is so expensive so we did not even really get a shot at GND...we booked St.Kitts - but then that all fell apart and we got the blessing of considering Grenada...it is feeling all very fated! it will be wonderful to take my son to the island I have loved for decades...but that I visited when i was pregnant wiht him - now I am back with him and his little miracle brother...heheheh I am so excited!

Boots is a must-do. mymoosie knows my tastes so well! 
Yes, it's run out of his home, so reservations are essential. I usually drive myself there and back because I'm not impressed with the libations there, so driving post-cocktail is never an issue for me. It's very dark and he only has a tiny sign, so if you want to drive there yourself, I recommend checking out the locale by daylight to familiarize yourself with it. You'll pass it on your right on the way to La Sagesse, if that helps with your planning. La Sagesse would be a great beach to visit for a day with the family.
And yes, the Boots meal is a multi course prix fixe. There's usually one seafood option, plus either chicken or goat or something else for the main entree. Plus a small appetizer, small salad, tons of provision (local root veggies, occasionally rice & peas), and a small dessert. It's a fine, fine time, and Ruby, Boots' wife, couldn't be sweeter. If Boots comes out to chat, it's a treat if you can get him to talk about his food preps. And if lambi (conch) is on the menu, there's no better place on the island to try it!

Coming from the Grand Anse area, if you pass the big Clarks Court Bay sign http://photos.imageevent.com/kajugo/...scourtsign.JPG then you've passed Boots. It's just right before that sign.
Lunch is more casual (not that dinner is formal by any means) and caters to mostly locals.
And oh yes, that lambi!! I didn't even know such a thing as lambi steak could be made. Oh how my mouth waters just thinking about that lambi steak. Soooo tender and yummy. Tell Ruby and Boots that Kris & Jerry sends a big Hello!

We will pass on everyones best wishes and regards! We are really looking forward to all of these wonderful restaurants and experiences - Thank you - we are so close now I can almost taste the lambi....ok I know I have not tried it yet but I am very creative!!
Now I just have to make sure that I am well packed and once I am on the plane I am going to find some time - kids in mind - to look over all the information I have gathered from all of you on all the different sites!! But Boots is definetly looking like the forerunner for unique and wonderful experience!
