San Diego - end of March. Too cold for swimming?

Traveling to San Diego at the end of March. Wondering what the normal temps might be and if it's too cold to swim, boogie board, etc. What's the nicest beach for teens?

Here's a chart. You decide. Too cold for me. Many people use wet suits.

Someone else can perhaps answer your question about a nice beach for teens. When I was a teen, if it had sand, water, and some waves, that was fine by me.

La Jolla Shores and Del Mar were the most popular with my kids when they were teens. Still are I think.

My daughter and I rented wetsuits spring break 07. We stayed in the water about 2 minutes. There were many locals there surfing. We are use to swimming in warm waters.

IMHO it is too cold to swim in the California ocean, including San Diego, all year long.

June - early Oct are the only months fit for swimming w/o a wetsuit. Even then there can be cold spells.

Thanks - I'm getting the idea! Brrr! Can you expect fairly nice weather then? Sunny vs. rainy? I'm thinking golfing and touring instead of beaches now!

It very likely will rain sometime during March, with the probability of rain decreasing during April. See:

kids don't seem to mind the cold as us adults but you'll need a wetsuit and you can rent them from LJ Shores surf shop..
Great beaches are LJ Shores, Del Mar, Carlsbad and Coronado.
Also, if they aren't used to the waves, could be problematic for storm waves can be huge and dangerous.
Come back in Aug/Sept/Oct for gorgeous water and Indian summer days.
Have fun in SD..native and happy to help!

March just isnt cold for water temp, but probably the worst month for waves too. In March the best you can hope for is a Santa Ana condition w/ 80 daytime temps(70 at the beach) to where you can enjoy your time at the beach and maybe get a 10-15 min romp in the ocean.

At the end of March the only place warm enough to swim in California is a pool in Palm Springs.

It's difficult to know what the weather will be like at the end of March. Even if it rains chances are it won't rain all day, unless we get really lucky. The weather can change suddenly too be prepared.

Unless you're a seal, or dressed like one, March is too cold for swimming.

March is way too cold for swimming - I agree with the Aug, Sept, Oct. Sept is one of my favorite beach months in Southern California.

Thanks everyone. Looks like we'll have to pack long sleeve and pants and jackets for this trip instead of swimming suits!
