Safe & Good Value hotel, Savannah, GA off I-95

Can anyone recommend an economical hotel (possibly with breakfast)? We will be driving down I-95 from Connecticut on our way to Florida. Savannah is a good stopping point.

Clean, and a safe area is a concern...we are only going to sleep there and move on early in the morning.

what do you consider economical? At the Savannah airport exit (not sure of the number) there are a number of newer clean hotels (Hilton Garden, Hampton, Four Points, Cambria suites, Homewood Suites, etc.) This is where we always stop.

Skip the LaQuinta that is at an I-95 exit in Savannah. When we stayed there, doors slammed all night (it has outside hallways). About 3:30 in the morning, someone tried to enter our room; the desk had accidentally re-sold the room! Our dog set off at that! The door rattle woke us, and I'm sure our weimaraner woke the rest of the place! We were wide awake then, and dead tired the next day with a full day of driving ahead of us.

gmoney, Economical to me would be $85-$90 per night if it is a clean, modern facility with buffet breakfast. Actually, if you break it down to a cost per hour, if we sleep seven hours $12 -$13 for two people is a fair deal with breakfast.

I will check out the hotels you mentioned.

MsSteinrunner, thanks for the heads-up on the La Quinta.

Do you not intend to see downtown Savannah at all? We also stayed at that La Quinta off I 95 but drove into downtown for dinner and quick look around. (20 mins. drive) If I had it to do over, I'd stay in town.

mclaurie, No, we do not intend to see downtown Savannah. We are on a mission and this is the first of three trips up-and-down I-95 from CT to FL.

We will relax once we get to FL. My husband is a road warrior (sales rep) and this trip is not for "fun stuff."

Do you have any suggestions? I keep reading online that lots of these hotels off major highways allow pets - that's the type of hotel I want to avoid.

There is a Ramada in "midtown" that used to be a Clubhouse. Is that close to I95? Great buffet breakfast. Nice hotel, clean enough.

We often stay in the Richmond Hill or Pooler area(s) on either side of where 16 meets 95. If you have a favorite chain, I'd look there first, they likely will have something in that area.

Well all La Quinta's allow pets. I have no personal experience, but based on what you say you want, the Springhill Suites off 95 looks like the best option. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Savannah_Georg

Make sure to do a price check (I did one on tripadvisor page that I linked) as 3rd party websites seem to have some cheaper prices than the Marriott website.

i_am,

I just checked the Hampton and Hilton Garden inn for our trip in November and they were arount $100 - $110. I think that it is exit 104.

You want the "gateway" locations for the hotels - I95 and Abercorn area. (Midtown is further east and historic district even further east on Abercorn.
I'd book the Holiday Inn Express -

I95exitguide.com will b e a good resource for your travels. There are various chains in the area of Savannah called "midtown" - which is fairly close to I95 and not midtown to anything except big box stores, chain restaurants. For your purposes I would avoid anything called "Historic District" since you will pay a premium for location and often have to pay for parking.

I have stayed at the Savannah Springhill Suites and it was fine - fairly new, clean, efficient - included breakfast and I had a huge room/suite - with separate sitting area. Avoid the Days Inn - it is creepy and everything is broken - or was the one time we stayed there.

Thank you everyone! Gail, the web site you referred to is great. We will be making more road trips from CT - FL in the next couple of months, and the information on that site is very useful.

I've nailed down the hotel. We don't think we should go as far south as Savannah - just a bit north. I booked the Hampton Inn, Port Wentworth, just off I-95 for $89.10 with breakfast (served at 6:00 a.m.) I checked it out on tripadvisor and it gets terrific reviews.

As SAnParis 2 mentioned, by staying at the Hampton Inn, we get our Hilton points as a bonus.

Inn at Mulberry Grove (I-95, Exit 109 in Georgia near Savannah) has a $59.95 nightly rate that includes hot buffet breakfast. Really nice folks there -- www.innatmulberrygrove.com

I'm here at the Hampton Inn, Port Wentworth, GA. So far, so good. Clean hotel, spacious room, and hopefully a good night's sleep.
