My cousin visited Greece earlier this year & took a plug adaptor bought especially for the trip. She said that it did not work because the outlets there were recessed. I have a European plug adaptor which I have used in several countries & it looks like the one I saw on Matt Barrett's site. When I showed it to her, she said she doesn't think it will work. Any info on this would be appreciated!

Yes, my adaptor has 2 round prongs. She said the problem is that the outlets are recessed.

Or look for a plug extension that will fit on the end of your plug that is smaller overall than the recess.

Few U.S. appliances need to be grounded, and those that do will have a third round pin in addition to the two flat blades. For the majority of appliances, all you need is the two-pin adapter (as above), which will fit any European Schuko outlet. Don't pay too much for an adapter plug - they are dirt cheap, and anything priced more than a few dollars is a rip-off.

As long as you use just a simple 2 prong adapter you'll be fine.

Problems arise when you try to use one of the multi pronged ones where the prongs slide out of a barrel arrangement. The barrel containing the pics is often too big for recessed plugs.

The sockets in Greece are the same as German standard "Schuko" sockets. The problem with those 2 prong plugs mentioned above (Magellans) is that the outer corners are rounded!, this does not comply to specifications. And for that reason, it will not fit. The plug heimdall mentioned will not fit either.

Whoever sells those adaptors in the states has never seen a common schuko socket!

The prongs are exactly the same, but notice the difference to the "magellans" plug. No rounded corners.

"Marsh" is in Europe according to the information above. The poster still has not said what sort of plug configuration they are trying to find an adapter for, only that the adapter they have has two round prongs. If in fact the plug ends of the appliances they want to adapt are two parallel round prongs, European style, and all they need is an extension, then the one Heimdall suggests will work. Take note that the info about it says "Accepts both parallel-blade plugs and round-pin transformer/converter plugs". If they have appliances from the U.S. with two parallel flat prongs (or blades) the same adapter will still work. It does fit, although not as snugly as the one I suggested. I have used a version of the Magellan adapter in Greece for 24 years.

I forgot to mention that I used the one I suggested this last trip and it fits into the recessed Greek socket very well. You can see that it accepts many different configurations of pins and prongs.

This "magellan" plug will not fit into a standard (recessed) Schuko, that's all and that definitive. I've got too many of those Schukos at home to not see this instantly.

Logos999, you are wrong. I have several two-prong adapters with rounded corners, and they all work in Greek outlets. I have used them in Greece for many years without any problem. Just last month, in fact, I used them with my U.S. spec netbook, camera, and shaver battery chargers during a three week trip to Greece.

I do need to make photos, right . I do have one "rounded" from the US and it doesn't fit into any of my Schukos. It expects "v" shaped corners but there's just that little but of extra plastic.

A Schuko is a Schuko, fortunately DIN and ISO do exist. And a Schuko in Greece is the same as a Schuko anywhere. (in Europe )

Logos, I am speaking from my experiences in Greece. The problem you may have had in Germany with a rounded plug adapter has not arisen in my travels in Greece over many years. Incidentally, the plug adapters I use aren't Magellan's, but the same shape as the one in my link. They are available in U.S. military exchanges throughout Europe (including Germany) for $1.09.
