United travel voucher

I have a United travel voucher which refunds me the difference between the price I paid for a fight, and the drop in price I later found. It must be used within one year.

Does this mean I must fly by the date posted, or just book my ticket by the date posted?

I understand it's best to redeem the vouchers at the airport.

Thanks for your help with this. I can't seem to find an answer on United's web site.

For any vouchers that I have seen, you must purchase the ticket within 1 year of the date of the voucher. The ticket that you purchase is technically valid for 1 year, though in most cases you'd need to use it for travel within 331 days of the date you purchase the ticket.

Rizzuto is correct about being valid for one year from the date of issue. If the airport is nearby, you can make the new reservations there. Otherwise you would have to mail the vouchers to I believe Chicago. The agent I had spoken to explained it very clearly.

We opted to exchange the vouchers at IAD as it was on our way home from that area.
We were lucky doing it, as there were only two people ahead of us. Paid $90.00 for two tickets to ABQ, no fee charged, and the wait and transaction took less than twenty minutes.

I forgot to add that since we received a senior discount to ABQ we had to make the reservation on line and then click hold to get it into the system.

I would call reservations and confirm the process for redeeming the vouchers. When I've used re-fare vouchers, I've always put my reservations on hold via the website and then ticketed them at ORD (there was also a mail-in option). But, United no longer has a "hold" option for online booking. I expect you'll have to do it by phone or at the airport, both of which may involve a booking fee.

I just did this and as ms_go stated because there isn't a "hold" feature on the UA reservations website, I had to call UA with the flight information. The agent will give you your confirmation number for your ticket and tell you what information to put on the voucher. As I have always done in the past, I mailed my vouchers thru USPS. Usually they have told me they must get the voucher within 10 days or so, but this time they did not mention a time frame.

Be sure to check and ensure that they received your voucher and your tickets have been issued. I had an experience this winter where my voucher never reached UA and I didn't discover it until a few weeks b4 the departure. It took quite a lot of effort and time to get it straightened out. the ticket price had risen considerably and UA could have charged me the higher price for the tix. Fortunatley they didn't and let me apply the voucher against the original ticket price from when I booked I first reserved the ticket.

Thanks everyone for your input. These are re-fare vouchers, worth $190 each. So as long as I book the new flights within 1 year of our issue date, we can fly later. Our voucher dates are in April, but I can ticket flights in the summer right?
