Berlin Germany - Original Berlin Walks or Hop-On Hop-Off Bus?
I am going to Berlin, Germany, and have Saturday, July 4th set aside for sightseeing. What are your experiences with these?
*Original Berlin Walks
*Hop-On Hop-Off Bus
I am leaning more toward the walking tour, but have not made a final decision. I am more interested in the historical aspects of the city rather than getting myself oriented. Ideally, it would be nice to do both. However, I will not be able to on this trip.
I will be staying in the Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood.
Thanks!

If you plan on taking the walking tours you will be limited to one or two areas - Berlin is huge.
If you are more interested in the pre-wall history of Berlin, then a walking tour in Mitte would cover most of what you want to see both easily and better than a bus hop.

Why not take one of the themed historical walking tours then, like a 3rd Reich tour or a Cold war tour? All the walking companies have a variety of tours. We found the regular walk with Insider tours to be very in-depth, with lots of history presented, it certainly was NOT an orientation tour, though we did feel like we knew our way around the city by the end. If you are interested in the historical aspects of the city, you will be extremely disappointed in a bus tour. 2-3 sentences as you drive past something. No guide to ask questions. Sitting in traffic jams isn't fun either.
Are you not planning on buying a day pass for the public transportation? Ride bus 100 first thing in the morning and then do a walking tour. Having a day pass AND paying for a hop on-hop-off bus tour? Waste of money unless you are physically unable to walk around. Once you do a walking tour, you will find the idea of the bus tour almost silly.
Have you looked at Brewers tours or Insider tours to see what they offer?
