MOHEGAN SUN or FOXWOODS?

I know nothing about gambling or casinos, but I've heard of these two resorts. How are they different or the same? What would recommend one over the other? Are they a good destination for a night or two in summer even if we're not gamblers?

Check their web sites to see what shows/sporting events/etc. are going to be at the sites when you will be taking your vacation. Both are glitzy Vegas style venues and both have shopping and plenty of dining choices in a range of prices. They are only 15 or 20 minutes from each other so there is no reason you couldn't stay at one and go visit the other. They also are close to Mystic CT which has an excellent aquarium and Mystic Seaport a living village museum of the sea of the 1800's complete with large sailing ships. On Foxwoods property is an excellent American Indian museum with a focus on the native Americans from the area, life size models of a village, hunting scene, etc. Both periodically have special promotions. Mohegan Sun sponsors a professional women's basketball team which plays in their arena.

Mohegan Sun still does not have table games. On the other hand the Mohegans are one of the more repsonsible tribes in assisting tribes that are less fortunate. They will refuse any monies from the federal government that can be redistributed to other tribes. The also woork independently with less fortunate tribes.

The Mashantucket Pequots who own Foxwood have other issues. According to the Phiadephia Inquirer, a key tribal leader has a criminal past.

Auduchamp- i might not be understanding your post, but Mohegan does have table games-- if you mean games like Black jack and the like. perhaps we are thinking of 2 different things.

I'm a big fan of the MGM grand at Foxwoods--esp if you don't gamble. They have a new spa, and outdoor pool and great restaurants (Craftsteak etc.). But without the mgm grands part, i would pick mohegan over foxwoods.

I saw table games at Mohegan Sun this past Saturday.

DH and I are also not gamblers and generally do not seek out casino-type venues. However, Saturday we chose Mohegan Sun as a place to meet friends from NY area - with each of us traveling 2 hours. Had dinner, lost a little money on slot machines, walked around, people watched. They have some decent shows listed (schedule on-line). I have heard hotels are expensive, but as this was a day trip did not check that out either.

A pleasant diversion for a day - worth a check-out visit I would say.

Sorry, my fault for not being more specific. I thought Mohegan still does not have a poker room. It will available when they open the annex.

They have stopped construction on the annex, but the most recent addition (Casino of the Wind)has 42 poker tables.
