Transportation from Orlando to Port Canavarel, FL

What is the best/most cost efficient way to get from Orlando (airport) to Port Canavarel (to the cruise ships)? Is there public transportation available (i.e. city bus, etc.)? Thank you for your input.

The cruise line should have transportation available (for a fee). It is more expensive but they will make sure you get there on time.

Are you planning to fly in and go to the ship on the same day or are you flying in a day earlier?

We just came back from a Carnival cruise at Port Canaveral. Many people took the shuttle from Orlando. They said it cost $50. Based on how outrageous taxis are down there, I expect that was each way but don't know for sure. Parking at the Port was $15 dollars per day.

Taxis probably run about $10 a mile. At least that's my experience. I took a taxi in Orlando to a restaurant that was supposed to be "ten minutes". It ended up taking closer to 20 minutes and cost $65 each way (for one person).

There are shared vans that offer regular service from Orlando airport to Port Canaveral but no public transportation (it's over 50 miles, after all). You really should book a transfer with the cruise line to be safe, but if you really don't want to do that, then look into shuttle services.

There are many shuttle companies listed on the Port Canaveral web site. I don't have any specific experience with any of them, so I can't make a recommendation. The prices seem to be about $25 per person each way in a shared van or $130 each way in a private car (that's per car, not per peson), which seems pretty reasonable to me.

AAA Cruise Line Connections (www.aaasuperride.com) is one service offering shared van rides for $48 round-trip per person. There are many other companies offering this service for similar prices.

We are planning to fly in the day before.

Haven't decided yet whether to stay in Orlando or closer to Port Canavarel, as I haven't looked into accommodations yet (trip isn't until September, 2009).

I received a quote from Omega Transportation for $180 round trip for three passengers (two adults and one child), but haven't looked into that any further.

Thanks for all of your responses.
