Travel Budget for Kuala Lumpur Trip

hi

i am planning to visit KL later this year - after peak tourist months - i have a daily budget of $ 400 (USD) excluding hotel expenses - i am wondering will that be enough to cover dining/transportation/tickets etc.

i am planning to stay for 6 days - so i would bring about $ 2400 in total

Any Suggestions!!!!

- Farhan

Absolutely no problem.

Our family of three didn't spend that ($400) in three days including EVERYTHING except hotel. We had a taxi for half day and others on and off, had dinner and show at cultural center, went canopy walking and trekking in the FRIM jungle, ate wonderful food, and enjoyed roof top bars twice at hotels with a view of the petronas.

That is a very generous budget IMO but I have only been there once. Hopefully someone else will chime in. But after being in Malaysai for a week, it seems MORE than enough for an entire family.

To be honest with you, I'm not even sure how you'd spend $400 per day in KL. You can get five star hotels under $200.

I already have hotel arrangements @ Traders KL - i never been to KL before (well technically - because i visited with my parents when i was three years old)

I have been to Singapore - which is costly - i am just trying to envision a suitable budget

i will be traveling with my wife - and keen on not doing any shopping

$ 400 is only for daily expense budget including transportation/tickets to attractions/food etc.

i am relieved probably should slash budget to half of it.

I find KL to be cheaper than Singapore. A budget of $400 is more than enough money that will last for several days!

If you were spending more than $400 a day even in Singapore you must be quite extravagant!

thank you all for your advice(s).

I think i will cut the daily expense budget to half (just to be on the safe side).

i never intended to spend $ 400 a day - just wanted to be sure if i have enough funds for any unexpected expense

hi there,

One cld spend lots of money or little money, depending on one's taste, but here's a basic guide - hope it helps (USD1 = RM3.6 today at least)

Hotel 5 Star: < RM400 per nite(RM250 to $300 quite nice).
Food: hawkers stall <RM10 per meal
Food: <RM60 for a nice restaurant meal per person(steak, nice chinese restaurant, Indian food)- without alcohol though, which is relatively expensive,
Drinks: as noted, alcohol is expensive, rest quite reasonable (<RM10)
Transportation: Taxis are cheap, if you can get them and have them use the meter - anyway within the city shld be <RM30. But I suggest you take the Trains around the city - cheap and easy. Dont drive unless you have to - jams and if you get lost, you cld spin for hrs trying to get out of the highways.
attractions: most have nominal entrance fees (budget<rm20 per person, usually less), unless you go for esoteric activities like hang gliding off the twin towers....
side tours: go to Melaka (historic city) go to Penang (great food, some beaches, old colonial town)

BTW, no shopping? Give it a shot - you might be tempted ...

Good luck and Selamat Datang....(welcome in Malay!)
