March/April weather in England
How cold is it in England late March early April for a driving holiday to Cornwall, Bath, Wales ending in London? Do we need gloves, hats and very warm coats? Can we expect a few nice days?

You can never tell what the weather will be like.
Traditionally March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.
The chances are that you will get quite a lot of sunshine, but it will be quite cool and probably showery.
You won't need a very thick coat but I'd bring a hat and some light-weight gloves.
You will definitely need a raincoat, so perhaps you could bring one with a warm lining.
It's a lovely time of year, with Spring flowers out in the countryside and in public and private gardens.

Went to London in mid-March 2006 and absolutely froze our butts! I don't know when I was that cold...even the Brits were complaining about how bitter it was...yes, we had some sunny days, but they were very, very cold. I would carry a heavy coat and pack gloves/hat/scarf, then hope you don't have to use them. With the money exchange, you will be paying huge amounts for things you wish you had. Go on the safe side!

It's very highly unpredictable, for certain. You'll really need to check local weather forcast beforehand.
In general, expect some rain--make sure you have appropriate footwear, as walking around in soggy shoes/socks are no fun. When it's sunny it could be quite gorgeous. temperature-wise, it can be cold or warm. As for outerwear, I usually wear lined raincoat around that time of the year. No hats (though rain hats may be helpful) or gloves, but a scarf does make a difference if it gets chilly.

March/April is our favourite time of the year in the UK - lovely to see spring flowers and green grass. It can be a bit chilly but certainly nothing even remotely close to being as cold as where we live. We find the UK to be a lovely reprieve in weather. We just take a light jacket and sweater and gloves.

During our Eastertime 2006 10 day driving epic we began in Edinburgh, spent some time in the Cotswolds and finished in London.
Yes, it was a bit chilly in Scotland. It rained off and on. For about an hour at Hadrian's Wall it was horizontal freezing rain, then turned warm and sunny. Sometimes rainy, sometime sunny in Cotswolds. London weather was fantastic.
We had one of the best vacations ever. Took along our friends from Japan, who had never done a "road trip" before. Great part about that time of year is there are not many tourists.
Bring a jacket, bring an umbrella, layer and have fun!

We've been to England in late Apr. A real mixture of wet/sunny days. I had a hooded trench coat w/zip-out lining & gloves, don't remember being cold, but we dressed in layers, easy to remove if need be, & less cumbersome than a heavy coat. Remember walking around Cirencester in the rain & finding I had a leaky sneaker! = D I think the best idea is to be prepared. Totes sells an umbrella that collapses to 6-8" length. Gloves, scarves, hats, tights, sox, lightweight 'long johns' don't take much space, can go a long way to feeling warmer.
