We are planning a family trip over spring break and would like some feed back from someone with experience with St. Kitts. We are also wanting to rent a condo so any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that it is definitely worth the trip! We have been 3 times, but have not stayed in a condo. The people are so friendly, the island is easy to navigate in a car, Brimstone Hill Fortress is an amazing sight, Turtle Beach is always fun (but I understand that the beach bar is closed now ), the food is great....Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack is a great hang out. Nevis is a ferry away...another great island.

I, too, really enjoyed our trip to St. Kitts and Nevis.

We stayed at Timothy Beach Resort, loved the place, although it's not fancy.

I spent a winter on a sailboat in the caribbean about 20 years ago- BVI to Antigua.

Nevis and St Kitts were my favorite islands- I am told not much has changed with the exception of a few new large resorts, Four Seasons being one of them.

St. Kitts is definitely, absolutely, positively worth it!!!

I have been going to St. Kitts since I was a child and love it there.

The people are so friendly, the views are breathtaking, lots of fun beach bars, day trip to Nevis, rainforest hikes, catamaran/snorkel excursions and so much more.

Are you debating St. Kitts against another possible destination? If so, I might want to know what your other options are. Are you debating about going to st. Kitts or not visiting the Caribbean at all, then the choice is clear! Go! St. Kitts is beautiful and fun to explore.

I agree with everyone. St. Kitts is beautiful. As ejcrowe said, if it's St. Kitts or nothing, then St. Kitts should win. There are plenty of things to do in St. Kitts.

bodar, my husband and I enjoyed the casual Timothy's beach resort on St Kitts since their beach is good for snorkeling and you can have breakfast so close to the beach at their little restaurant.

We enjoyed renting a car and exploring the non-touristy areas of the island.

But we were disappointed in one thing. We were told there was some dancing. Maybe we just got unlucky, but everyplace that there was supposed to be dancing...when we got there, NO DANCING! Since it was an anniversary trip this was disappointing.

I really think it depends on what you are looking for. I've been to St. Kitts, Dominica, St. Lucia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and in Hawaii, Maui and Kaui. Of all of these islands, St. Thomas was my LEAST favorite, and Dominica was my most favorite. St. Kitts falls somewhere in the middle.

One problem with St. Kitts is that not enough info is available for this island, in my opinion. Also every island has its pros and cons, but for some reason it is hard to find anyone on-line who is giving a balanced picture of St. Kitts, including the pros and cons.

I almost feel like St. Kitts is being "pushed" or "oversold" on the forums. I'm not sure why.

If you check out the forums for Hawaii you'll find as many complaints as you will find praises. So why isn't the St. Kitts info more balanced?

Maybe we were just unlucky, but we also had 2 problems with the airport. The security checkpoint at St. Kitts airport decided to completely check out everything in my duffel bag, which was fine, except that the woman had trouble getting my stuff back into the duffel, and she was very impatient. She scolded my husband for trying to help her, and she stuffed my nice leather sandals back into the side pockets so roughly that she caused the top of one to be a bit twisted. She was rude, actually. I found many of the employees at the St. Kitts airport to be unfriendly. This has never happened to me anywhere else in an airport.

Also, somewhere between St. Kitts and Florida, the airport personnel must have left our luggage out in the rain, because it arrived in Florida completely soaking wet all the way inside...a bunch of paperwork was ruined. This has never happened before. (We don't live in Florida but stopped there on the way home to visit family.)

On the other hand the people on the island of St. Kitts are wonderful and friendly. They tend to be shy and friendly. (Not counting a few bolder people who might try to sell you something if you are on one of the more touristy beaches.)

Where do you live? Since I live in San Diego, I'd say St. Kitts is too far and not worth a second visit for me. But if you live on the east coast, St. Kitts is an easier visit for you.

Enjoy your trip wherever you decide to go.

It is too bad that Melissa's experience at SKB was bad. That must have been two years ago because they have new equipment and no longer have to rifle through the baggage. This is a US requirement since the airplane is landing in the US. Many small airports in the US have the same problem. I went through this last year in Bend, Oregon. The traveller is not allowed to touch his/her own property while it is being searched. Again: a US security mandate. Perhaps the posts on St.Kitts seem unbalanced because nobody has anything bad to say about St. Kitts. I'll echo EJ and SKBFAN1: St. Kitts and it's sister island Nevis are wonderful desitnations.

Well, I don't think Melissa had a bad time. As I recall from her trip report, she enjoyed St. Kitts but was disappointed in the nightlife, which incidentally she did research before leaving.

St. Kitts actually isn't a favorite destination of mine (though Nevis is), but I do think it is a beautiful island and it is fun to explore. It's a good fit for a lot of people.

But where is bodar? S/he never wrote back about St. Kitts. Who can say what's worth the trip to somebody else without knowing more about their travel preferences?

sorry ej - SKB to me means the airport. I thought she was saying that she had a bad experience at the airport. What I was trying to say, without being rude, is that the US Homeland Security imposes it's rules on small countries like St/Kitt/Nevis which do not have the money to buy expensive scanning equipment so in order to comply they have to work the old fashioned manual way. The rest of her report was favorable to the island and that's good. If it is any solace, Nationals get their luggage searched upon arrival. The Gov't import taxes are high and a big source of revenue so Customs like to take a careful look-see in our incoming baggage.

ejcrowe is right, I did enjoy St. Kitts, but was disappointed in the lack of night life, which was NOT happening in the places where it was supposed to be. (Yes, I did research it.) Since it was an anniversary trip we did want at least one night that included dancing. I had researched this in advance, and had asked again upon arrival. Yet, we still found no dancing.

I am guessing that some activities, like dances, are often cancelled at St. Kitts for some reason...we even arrived at one spot that even had a sign up about a fun event that never happened! So you might say that night-life must be unpredictable on St. Kitts...

I am glad we visited St. Kitts. It wasn't my favorite trip, but it does have a lot to offer. I would have preferred someplace else for an anniversary trip. But I do have some special memories of St. Kitts.

I find that travellers are more likely to be happy with their destination if they get a balanced picture of what to expect before they leave.

It is true that bodar, the original poster, doesn't seem to have returned to this post...but maybe someone else can benefit from the different viewpoints here.

Depending on when you are in St. Kitts, the island can be quiet and not as many activities going on. July and August are quiet months.

Ziggy's Beach Bar on South Frigate Bay usually has music playing and lots of people dancing the beach.

You are correct. The nightlife can be hit-or-miss on St. Kitts. I went during Carnival season and there was no shortage of dancing opportunities, both at the beach bars and hotels. The previous year I went a few weeks after Carinval was done and it was QUIET all over the island. Not sure why they can't offer more consistency for visitors as there are quite a few excellent bands, entertainers and DJ's on both St. Kitts and Nevis.

We were in St. Kitts 2 years ago and loved it! Depending on what you are looking for, it is a quiet island but very safe and the people are wonderful! I don't think it is an island for nightlife but the beach bars such as Shiggity Shack at Timothy Beach is fun most nites. As was posted earlier, try myislands.myeyez.net which tells you a lot about St. Kitts.
