What to wear in Paris in October at end of a trip

Going to be traveling and Paris will be the end of a trip. Will be there five days. Can I get away with blue jeans? I've read gym shoes are a no no. I was thinking comfortable clogs and jeans and wool jacket over t-shirt and long sleeve light weight jacket. Will have skirts and dresses but won't be warm enough. Limited suitcase space. Advice please.

If you're bringing skirts and dress for the rest of your trip anyway, why not just wear them? I've gone many times in late November and once in late December and only brought skirts and dresses. Even if it does get cold, a few pairs of warm opaque tights would take up far less space in your suitcase than the jeans.

Jeans will be perfectly fine. So would gym shoes. I've worn both in Paris in October (and September, November and December) with no problems. It sound like you will already have some dressier options for eating out at night, so you should be just fine!

There is no dress code for walking the streets of Paris.

Kerouac is bang on! I only noticed people that dressed VERY differently:like,
an ageing man with long lifeless grey hair sticking out from under his leather stetson which complimented his snake skin jeans and cowboy boots! I noticed him with a group of others on two following days which meant he REALLY liked that get-up! I also have a sneaking suspicion it was the same guy sitting in the front row at a major Paris Fashion show (televised on FT Fashion Week)!
Take cooler tops etc. I found it blazing hot after 11am in Oct.2005.

Hi

I say wear what you want as long as you are comfortable and as long as you are not offending people. If you want to check out the weather stats you can do that on http://www.weatherbase.com . My wife and I went to Paris in April last year and it was pretty cold at that time. Here is my trip report with some pictures and links: http://gardkarlsen.com/Paris_France.htm . Maybe you can find some useful info there to start with

Jeans will be fine especially if they're a "dressier" dark wash and are long enough to look stylish. Layering is a good idea -- if you have any cotton or lightweight cashmere or wool/silk blend sweaters, they'll come in handy for your entire trip. Also, a a scarf will make a huge difference and give whatever you wear a more finished look.
