I'm a little confused about the museum pass and the one-day pass for Versailles.

My understanding is that the one-day pass for Versailles includes the ticket and the round-trip train trip between the city and Versailles, for 21 euros -- when the train itself costs 20 euros.

Now, is there some connection between that and the museum pass? Could the museum pass be used in the same way, or it necessary to buy the one-day pass separately?

hey, I just bought one of those yesterday (the train plus Versailles passport pass, which is about 25 euro on Sunday). It was a very good deal, as it would have cost about 35 euro buying the parts separately, I think, and that's without the transportation (which is probably worth about five euro, not sure).

The train doesn't cost 20 euro, that's wrong info. Well, maybe if you take the regular train (although even that seems too high), but you just go on the RER and it's pretty cheap, as I said.

This special deal (called a Forfait Loisirs, you ask for it at a ticket window in the RER station) has nothing to do with the regular Paris museum pass. The Versailles Passport covers everything in the place -- I don't think the Paris museum pass which covers Versailles, that's true, includes everything, but you'd have to check that out. If you get the regular museum pass, you can use it for Verailles, but not transportation, of course -- just see which parts of Versailles it covers.

I just realized your 20 euro quote was probably roundtrip, so I guess the regular train would cost about that. But, as I said, that's not the best way to go anyway, as it doesn't go to the closest station to the chateau, the RER does.

If you have a eurail pass you can ride the RER C to Versailles for free. Just present your pass at RER ticket window and they give you a coupon.

I went on a weekday and the Versaille One-Day pass cost 21.45. It included admission to the chateau (around 14 euros), the domain of Marie Antoinette (9 euros) and the RER train cost (which would have cost about 6 euros round-trip separately). As Christina said, definitely take the RER, which is a lot cheaper; Versailles is quite close so the commuter train will do.

The Museum Pass DOES also include admission to Versailles; it just doesn't include the RER cost.

A Eurail pass day is too valuable to waste on a cheap RER ticket to Versailles (€2.80 each way). Be aware that only RER lines operated by SNCF honor Eurail passes. The other RER lines and all Metro lines do not. There are, of course, local tranport passes that include all modes--Metro, RER, bus, tram, Montmartre funicular--for the zones covered.

It includes all regular sites and tours at Versailles. Actually you can go for more than 1 day - we couldn't see all we wanted in the afternoon we had planned and went back the next day - still free admission with no line with the Museum Pass.

RER ticket to Versailles (€2.80 each way) makes it a total of 5.60 if you already have the museum pass. On my first trip to Paris I had pre-booked a Versailles tour at US$64.00 for a half day not knowing that I could have just hopped a cheap train ride and used the pass I already had

Be aware that there is a difference between the Paris Museum Pass that you can get at any of the museums and site it covers - and the Paris-Pass which is sold online and includes transportation but in the long run often costs a lot more - look at both websites to see which Paris pass works best for you, but usually you are better off with the Museum Pass and metro.

Yeah, definitely get the "Paris MUSEUM pass" and NOT the "Paris Pass".

The museum pass can be purchased in Paris, and it's not necessary to buy it online.
