We are considering going to the Cotton House on Mustique in the Grenadines. The least expensive units are the Cottages on the hill (in June $650 with meals, tax and service). Are the Cottages poorly located to get in beach and dining areas? Is the snorkeling first rate? Is it as good as Bonaire, nearly as good as Caneel area,as good as Turk & Caicos? Even if not off the beach snorkeling can tour boats take small groups of 6-8 guests to reef areas 3-10 miles away? We wanted to return to Tobago Cay but I would have to charter a boat for the day at $800 and it takes 3+ hrs.RT just getting there and back with 2-3 hours snorkeling, so we may only go if 1 or 2 other couples want to go and share the cost.
When where you there for I am interested in the condition of the accomodations and public areas?THANKS!!

I probably am not a good judge of the quality of snorkeling. As far as the rooms, we stayed in a Grenadine suite and I believe the cottages were next door, pretty much giving you the same view. The balcony actually looked out at not at the Cotton House beach but at the Atlantic side, which is pretty far away. You actually have more of a view of the grounds. The Sea Front rooms are the ones that are right on the water and have an amazing view.

The rooms were very large and beautiful with a great bathroom. A very short walk to the Great House and beach. The staff will unpack and press all of your clothes. The public areas of the hotel and grounds were also beautiful and very well kept. What we loved most was the staff. They were somewhat reserved at first but after you engaged them they were fantastic!! The GM of the hotel was a bit of a snob but I believe that there may be a new GM in place.

We went in May and it was quite hot. We really didn't do much besides sit under the umbrella, swim, read, have cocktails, and eat. It was perfect for us, as we had just come from Barbados but if you were looking for a lot to do you may be disappointed, especially in the low season. We also wanted to charter the boat but thought the price (I thought about $600) not worth it. It was an EXTREMELY relaxing trip.

I just looked on cottonhouse.net and saw a special for $440/night. Did you check that out? They also sometimes have packages on Luxury Link so try there also.

Last year we stayed on Bequia and Mustique at Firefly. IMO the snorkeling is better on Bequia plus you can take the Friendship Rose to Tobago Cays for much less.

We did love our stay at Firefly and would recommend Mustique but not really for the snorkeling.

If you're in that area, have you considered Petit St. Vincent? Most cottages are beachfront, with snorkeling right there.

We have been to PSV 3 times in the past 10-12 years. The cottages are lovely though not air conditioned. It was fine in March and April visits but too hot in late June. The snorkeling we thought was decent but it is very close to tobago Cay. I just found out that the trip from the Cotton House is 90 minutes each way from Cotton house and you have to charter a boat for ~$600 according to the G.M. at the resort.
Since snorkeling is a passion of ours along with some diving we are going to pass on the Cotton house.
