Flying on Korean Air - Any possible terror threats?

With all the stuff that is going on right now in London , it made me think about tensions between North and South Korea. I must admit, I don't know very much about the details of their relationship, but what is to stop North Korean infiltrates from going onto Korean Air from JFK to Incheon (I will be connecting and flying into Osaka) and copying Al Qaeda by blowing up those planes and destroying a part of South Korea? Are the airline companies that fly exclusively to Asia just as vigilant in looking for terror threats that concern them? Or is everyone just looking for Muslim people?

The government of North Korea, while not a very savoury regime, has never shown the least interest in committing such acts against its southern neighbour. I suggest, with all due respect, that you rectify your admitted ignorance of the relationship between these two countries. This would save you from floating imaginary threats and worrying yourself (and possibly other posters) over nothing.

North Korea and the US signed an armistice at the end of the Korea War, but the war has not officially ended. And in the last 50 years, they have not shot down a South Korean plane (though of course the USSR had).

So, I don't see why one should start worrying now.

The North Koreans do not need to take such actions, because they do have, or will soon have, nukes. Most of their trouble making is focused on the DMZ digging the odd tunnel, at times attacking a ROK soldier or taking a navel vessel, such as the Pueblo. The DMZ is actually a fascinating tourist visit if they still give the tour.

What sort of guarantee are you looking for?

The likelihood of a Korean Air plane being targetted by Muslim extremists is very likely less than a US-flag carrier. On the other hand, Korean Air may have a less savory safety record than other airlines, to say nothing of the curios event w/KAL 007.

There are no guarantees about anything in life, neither is there any cure for over-fretting.
