As to be expected, there's an abundance of guide books for Washington DC. Any preferences? Thanks!

All you really need to know about DC- msueums, museums, museums! Seriously, you don't need to waste money on a guidebook- just post questions about food/lodging here, and invest in a good map. (oh, and don't go during the summer: early spring-late May is the best)

We are going to use the Dorling KindersleyTravel guide we get here in Dutch translation.There the best,completely illustrated. After your visit you still have a wonderful souvenir with this guide book.They are bound and of glossy paper in a format for easy perusal.Paul

EugeneNY, try the Washington Post site -- www.washpost.com. It's got just about all the info you could possibly want, for free. I agree with Paul, though, that having a guidebook AFTER the trip can be such a special reminder of a happy time! Cheers!

Lots of people like guidebooks. Heck, that's why Fodors exists. You can't scan a travel thread when you are standing in front of Union Station trying to figure out what that statute is.

To take along and use for walking around, you can't beat ACCESS guidebooks. They are laid out in a most useful way.

When I'm trying to decide what I want to see in a given locale, I buy the DK Eyewitness Guide. Those glossy colored pictures really get me excited about my destination. (I rely on this board for things like hotel and transportation recommendations, however.)
