Cheap (CDN) Cuba Resort

Looking for a resonably priced trip(preferrably under $1000 pp CDN) to Cuba for April 2007. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Your best source of Cuban travel destinations would be to post your question on Debbie's Caribbean Forum.

http://debbiesreviews.proboards88.co...cgi?board=Cuba

There are a ton of people who travel to all the different resorts in Cuba and I'm sure they can help you out. While I travel to Cuba many times, I stay in Casa Particulars (B&B) or with friends in private homes. So I can't help you on the resort questions.

Publisher, you're assuming that lacey_pjs is a USA resident. Nothing in the OP suggests that fact. No other country in the world has to worry about the sanctions that the US Gov't imposes on it's own citizens so flights through Cancun or Nassau simply aren't necessary. For the rest of the world, we simply fly direct to Cuba without hassle.

Great suggestion from Faithie for one of the Canadian discount travel sites.

If you are a US citizen without family in Cuba why go to a country where 95% of the population lives below the poverty level because of the communist dictatorship of Fidel Castro, temporarily his brother Raul, if and when Fidel recovers. There are so many places within 200 miles in the Bahamas and Caribbean where you can enjoy a vacation that provide most if not all that Cuba offers?

Is there a need to personally attack someone at these sites?

What is your problem(s)??

I am simply trying to help...the posteres request is so vague how can anyone assume anything---including you??

Steve offered a very positive post---what did you do? "Canuck" in Canada? Complain....that explains it: you live in Canada.

The Random House Dictionary notes that: "The term Canuck is first recorded about 1835 as an Americanism, originally referring specifically to a French Canadian. This was probably the original meaning, though in Canada and other countries, Canuck now more often refers to any Canadian." [1]

Stankase reasoning is that if we all avoid Cuba and dont spend tourist dollars there that somehow this would help the population that he claims lives in abject poverty--- by going there and spending dollars in the underground markets we promote what little captalism is there and helps push other cultures dollars intoo Cuba...instead of boycotting Cuba-we should have pushed democracy and american dollars down Fidel's throat through diplomatic initiatives and opening up tourist visas to Cuba...

Stan...? You think Cuba is the ONLY Caribbean destination where a high percentage live below poverty level? Publisher, I'm a Canuck, proud of it. NEVER been told I'm a complainer. Lets not even go there. Everyone, PLAY NICE!!!

My comments, I urge you re-read them, were not a personal attack on a person. It was a comment to travelers who enjoy the sand and surf, sun, fishing, snorkeling, diving and learning about several interesting cultural differences than in most areas of the USA to consider visiting. We have visited 16-18 island/counties (unfortunately I have seen the areas where poverty is prevalent in most of them and) in our 38 years of travel.
I am pleased to give money to local merchants-not the duty free-and handicrafters. A group of local neigbors gave a total of $11,000 to Dominica, not the Red Cross nor the goverment but a local non-government organization we had visited while there after their most devastating hurricane for we had visited their country just 2 years because the people of the island were some of the most hospitable.
When Cuba returns to a socialist or democratic goverment it is possibly a destination to visit.
When in Asia in April I avoided Cambodia for their oppressive communist gov't that routinely puts anti-gov't folks in jail as Castro was doing for many years.Let's "drop the bone", please!

A superior social order? Polarizing words friend. Such ideas never do anything but create stereotypes. There's enough of that in this world. Disagree but please don't label. JM2C.

To respond to the original question, other good discount sites include www.redtag.ca or www.voyagesdestination.com. These sites always have cheap, last-minute specials. Good luck!

Since the OP wanted cheap in Canadian $$, I assumed she was Canadian (?). I'd also prefer to go there before they 'open the doors to the US', thank you very much...
