hotel in Providence while house shopping

We will be relocating to Providence, and will need to stay in a hotel when we go up to look for a home on the East Side of Providence. We will be traveling with our (almost) 3 year old son. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Downtown there is the Westin, Hotel Providence, Biltmore, Holiday Inn, Courtyard by Mariott, and the Mariott (near the statehouse, not right downtown) there is also a Radison that is slightly closer to the East Side, but not too convenient to much else....

What's your budget? If you are thinking about hotels that are a little cheaper, consider all the major motels in Seekonk, MA. It's just across the state line on I-195, 10 minutes to downtown Providence, and even less to many parts of east side.

I've stayed in the Biltmore and Westin hotels. Although they are very nice I don't think you would be very comfortable there with a 3 yo esp if he is an early riser. Restaurants in both hotels are expensive although the Westin is connected to the Providence Place Mall with a skywalk. The Holiday Inn is a block away. There are several nearby family restaurants around the Mall. I can't remember if the hotels have frigs in the rooms. Friends find hotels in Warwick, 12 miles away, to be a much better deal. (We stay at the Westin because we don't want to drive in city traffic.) Seekonk sounds even better, closer to where you are house hunting.

Warwick is south of Providence. The East Side of Providence is actually northeast of downtown.

For a convenient location, I'd recommend the Comfort Inn in Pawtucket, it's right off of Exit 27 on Route 95, and about a mile from the point where Blackstone Blvd and Hope Street intersect, so you won't have to deal with downtown Providence traffic and parking.

My daughter lives on the East Side with her husband and 3-year old son. It's a lovely neighborhood, but soon you'll be dealing with the usual issues of educating a kid in an urban environment. Their friends are all paying for private schools or moving to the suburbs.
