Canada's Top 100 Trips
Today's National Post has an interesting article on Canada's top 100 trips (along with websites for most of them). You may argue with some of the selections, but most of the best are there.
I have done 38 of them so far, so there's much more yet to see and do.

A very quick perusal brings up some interesting facts. I didn't know tourists could visit the Hibernia oil platform, and I didn't know Kitchener, Onatario used to be called Berlin. I also didn't know about the Diefenbunker in Ottawa, and definitely would be interested in visiting it next time I'm in the area.
However, for some reason, Tuktoyaktuk has never called out to me. I've seen my husband's photos of it (in summer, no less), and that was enough for me. If I remember correctly, it took my husband 5 hours to fly there from Edmonton. I wonder how long it would take to reach it via the Dempster Highway as suggested on the list.
Anyway, as you said, one could argue with some of the suggestions, but it's an inspiring list nonetheless.

Thanks, laverendrye. I've only been to 21 of those suggestions, so I've got to give up the international travel for a while!
Like Judy_in_Calgary, I had no idea you could visit the Hibernia platform. I'd be intrigued, but would probably begin to have second thoughts when they handed out the cold-water survival suits before boarding the helicopter.

I'm around the half-way mark on the list, being generous in saying yes, I've done that.
There are easier ways to the tops of things than hiking up the sides of some giant hill.
I did not buy lobster in Alma; instead it was usually on Northumberland Strait.
But it does underline just how much great stuff there is in Canada to see and do.

Nor did I know that you could get tours in Fort McMurray of the oil sands plants. I've been inside two plants up there, and it really is fascinating.
More indutrial-style busiensses should offer tours. It would go a long way toward educating kids.
I think you can get a tour of the Porsche factory if you buy one and go to Germany. Why not the Civic factory in Alliston?

I am really surprised that this list doesn't even mention driving the Icefields Parkway from Lake Louise to Jasper. That would be my number one choice as the most beautifully scenic drive in all of Canada. West Edmonton Mall is listed, but not the gorgeous Rocky Mountain Parks (Jasper and Banff)??? Weird!!
Some of the items are very strange. Eating perogies and holubchies in Vegreville is one of Canada's top ten?? C'mon now you people in Toronto - get a grip and visit the west once in a while (just for those of you who don't know - National Post is a Toronto newpaper pretending to be "national").

Borealis, I live just outside Toronto, and I agree with you 100%.
Nothing compares to the Icefields Parkway ! Our trip out west last year was fabulous. Every one should see the Rockies!
And just for the record, I don't even know where Vegreville is!! But I do know that I had the best perogies EVER at a friend's place in Sicamous BC ( home made..mmmm).

If I could spell it, I'd advocate hot dogs at Kaleki's in Winnipeg over perogies in Vegreville.
And how about clams at Goulds in Shediac?
There were strange things on the list, for sure.
Drinking beer and eating kabasa on a bun in the Gold Range in Yellowknife was missing?
But that 100 wasn't bad, and when you add in the things it missed, it seems a shame to pack kids into an aluminum tube and take them to some foreign theme park, year after year, when there's so much in Canda.
