I know there is public transportation from Rome to this port, but with luggage...we want to take a taxi. Can anyone tell me approximately how much a taxi would be

I paid 30 euro on a early traffic free morning. Could be more, depending on traffic, but it shouldn't be more than 40 or 50 euro.

I'm thinking a taxi from Rome to Civitavecchia would cost more than 40-50 Euro. That would be the price from Rome to the Airport (FCO).

I recall several weeks ago there were numerous threads about this subject. Try doing a search on Civitavecchia.

Yeah...30 Euros for a taxi all the way to or from Rome..seems unlikely.

Figure a limo will cost about 100E.

Thank you all for these replies. I am helping cousins plan a visit to Rome before their cruise. They've never been to Europe and they had a crazy idea of spending the night before the cruise in Civitavecchia...rather than in Rome.... and I am trying to point out the error in their thinking.

I would take Henry_Ser's recommendation with a grain of salt. From previous posts, it looks like this is an advertisement rather than a Fodorite experience.

Topping this in hopes that someone who has taken this route can provide first-hand experience.

Two years ago, I flew into Rome and had to get to Civitavecchia for a trip to Olbia, Sardegna. I had done some research, and what I ended up doing was to rent a car (the most economical) from Hertz, at the Rome airport, and I drove to Civitavecchia. There is a Hertz facility in the town, close to the ferry and the raiload. For less than $25.00 US, I had my transportation and I set up my own schedule. It was a lot cheaper than the train or a taxi.

Oh my I would so not suggest taking a train from Rome to Civitavecchia. It is so much more practical to take the train. Train fair is relatively cheap even if you get a first class ticket. Depending on your cab driver you could totally get ripped off in fair. Keep in mind this is about a 45 minute ride. That isnt long but with the way cab drivers like to rip people off you could really pay a price. The train is much more practical.
