Why would you need a driver in Singapore? There are 15,000 taxis in a country that's only 254 square miles big...half the size of Los Angeles County. I go there regularly on vacation and either take the MRT(subway) which couldn't be easier or walk or take taxis.Taxis are inexpensive there. Happy Travels!

Totally agree with the postings above. Taxis are plentiful and cheap. Don't even bother with the MRT....you can see more if you ride around above ground. Walking is safe in all the interesting ethnic neighborhoods and there are good maps available at every hotel concierge desk and at several Tourism Board offices around town.
All that said...there IS a woman here named Geraldine Lowe, who does a lot of cultural and historic tours for organizations like American Women's Assn and ANZA. She is a walking encyclopedia of Singapore information, history, anecdotes, etc. She also does a tour of the antique shops here called Best Price Lah? (People who have been to SG will understand that term.) It would be fascinating, but quite expensive to have Geraldine as your private guide. I will dig out her contact details if you are interested.

Don't rule out the MRT. I love taking the MRT. Plus the MRT pass is really cheap. And if you havn't used it all up before you're getting ready to leave Singapore, you just go to the MRT station and they will refund you the unsed portion. It's also good for 5 years if you plan to return to Singapore. And I like coming out of the MRT and directly into the mall area at some MRT stops.Plus, it's alot faster when it's pouring raining than to be in a taxi going cautiously through the downpour. Happy Travels!
