Depends on the cruise line.
On Oceania, you can bring anything you want from port to your room.
Wine is not included with meals, and theirs is expensive, If you bring yours to the DR, there's a hefty corkage fee, $20 I think.

Wine is not included on the Wind Surf. Since our cruise was in the Med, we brought back wine several times, without any problems. (Indeed, two of our excursions included winery tours.)There was a corkage charge for having it served in the dining room (perhaps $15); but it was worth it to be able to drink local wines.

My husband and I will be taking a cruise on Horizon. I was wondering if we can bring wine on board in our checked luggage, and be able to have it in our cabin?

JJTT, I've taken as much as 10-12 bottles of wine on board Horizon in my carry-on. Of course, if I brought a bottle to the dining room, I was charged corkage -- at that time $12.00 per bottle. I understand it has gone up?

Most ships allow wine to be brought aboard. On NCL I had a bottle, 1.75 litres, in my carry on. They charged me two corkage fees as it was not a small bottle. I don't mind one but.....I went to the bar manager and told him, he reduced it to one fee. They never opened it or poured it in the dining room. My other wine was a box I packed with checked luggage. No problem here. (12 day cruise)I used to buy 1 or 2 bottles in the dining room but they have increased these prices so much, I just carry a glass to the dining room with me. But I like a glass gettin ready for dinner and before bed. I don't want to go to a bar for this so bring enough for room consumption. However, I do get wine from bar waiters or the bar too. You can but wine by the glass or bottle in the dining room. They bring the unfinished bottle back to you the next night.

bonniejns, you stated that you bring a glass to the dining room with you. Did the waiter or anyone else say anything to you about bringing it in?? Where did you get the glass?

When you get to your room, ask your room steward to bring you a couple of wine glasses. When you happen to show up in the dining room with a full glass of wine -- so what. They'll think you bought in one of the bars. I wouldn't even worry about it.

I go to any bar and just ask for two wine glasses. Also wash and put them in closet to keep them either wise the room steward will take them - dirty glasses!
No one has ever said anything about bringing a glass to dining room. If they did, I'd just say I got it at a bar. Enjoy and, keep smiling!..........

An alternative to bottles is wine in a box.

There are actually some pretty decent wines available in this format (Hardy's shiraz is particularly good) that are identical to the wines they bottle.

Boxes pack easily, hold much more wine for the weight/size, aren't fragile, and keep the wine better than an open bottle (as the air comes out of the bag inside as you "dispense.&quot

We would just buy wine at the dinner table, but this was good for sitting on our balcony or just to take a glass and walk around the ship.
