Sanctuary and Kiawah
Looking to possibly Honeymoon at the Sanctuary in the Villas setting. Would anyone make any recommendations for or against? We like to eat well and be active - walks, hikes, etc. I would love any feedback.

The Sanctuary is a beautiful hotel but enjoyment will vary significantly according to the time of the year.
Kiawah is wonderful in the summer months when you can use the beach and pools to the fullest. Even on a honeymoon, you might get a little bored during the winter.
The other big activity at Kiawah is the golf, of course; not the best honeymoon entertainment.
Finally, choose a villa carefully. Only those renting from the Resort can make reservations for dinner ahead or use the REsort pools.

What attracted me to Kiawah was the 10 Mile beach, which is right in front of your hotel and the fact that you can ride bikes everywhere on the island. A big plus was being so close to Charleston as well. We are going in September for the first time. Were you planning on this June? If so, please report back on your trip. And congratulations on your nuptials!

My stay at Kiawah was a definite winner! Spent 3 days in downtown Charleston and then 4 days on Kiawah in the Windswept Villas. The weather was still too cool in late February to enjoy the pools and beach, but the golfing was excellent. Loved the dining options, especially the Jasmine porch buffet breakfast, which was included in our golf package. The Santuary is really lovely without being too over the top! Peaked in at the rooms and while really nice, I was still glad I stayed in the Oceanfront Windswept Villa. Would love to return in the summer for a real BEACH and golf vacation!

Thank you so much. I was confused about the villas versus the hotel, but there are not rooms available at the Sanctuary hotel. We are booked in the Villa, so I am relieved to hear they are nice.

You should be aware that the villas are individually owned units and are all different. Moreover, there are a number of villa complexes with different locations, room arragements and access to pools and beach.
Ask for a map of the island when you book the villa and locate the one they have assigned to you.
Closest to the hotel are the tennis villas and windswept. Relatively few villas on Kiawah are oceanfront. Most are a block or two back. Needless to say there is a huge premium for oceanfront during the summer.
