Cell phones in Cabo San Lucas

We have Sprint cell phone service and it does definitely not work in the Baja. Any suggestions for cell phone service from Cabo San Lucas and the Baja to communicate with friends and family in the states?

Prior to our trip to Cabo a couple of weeks ago, I had called my service - Verizon - and asked them specifically if I can use my phone down there and I was told yes, there is now roaming available for my tri-band phone. Well, we get down there and lo and behold, the phone does not work...! We ended up renting a phone from the resort and after yelling at a Verizon svc rep, we got a $50 refund on our next bill to cover the cost of the rental.

After our return, I phoned Verizon again, and this time I was told that while in Cabo I had to switch my svc connection from Automatic B to Automatic A which would activate the roaming service in Cabo. So I guess it does work but we won't know until next year if that's the case. Was also told by the concierge that AT&T seems to be the best connection from the US.

We're headed to China in March and Verizon once again told me my phone will work there as well, but I am calling again in a few weeks to double check!

Renting mobile phones while in Cabo San Lucas and Baja Sur is not just a convenient, for many it is a necessity.
Rent A Cell Cabo, is the cell phone answer on how to stay in touch with people back home as well as those you are traveling with while here in the Los Cabos area. Many people ask “is there is service for U.S. or Canadian cell phones in Mexico?” Yes, there are some plans that you may be able to use but your reception will be limited and the calls very costly.

There is however an excellent solution that comes with some great advantages. Rent A Cell is a company that offers daily rental of cell phones here in Los Cabos for travelers. You rent the phone and pay the charges via your credit card that you give them when you apply and reserve your phone online. It’s that simple.

What are the other Rent A Cell advantages? One is they have a flat fee rate for calls within Mexico, to the U.S. and Canada. The rate is a dollar a minute no matter where you call, which when compared to many of the hotels, with all the surcharges these days, for example, it can be a real savings.
A little foot note that exemplifies the advantage of the concierges service that Rent A Cell offers. Did just received a call from a friend that lives here but is still learning her Spanish. She is showing some friends, around because felt buried trying to write new articles these days. While she has her own local cell phone she called because she just had a small accident and couldn’t communicate with the women that owned the other car. She called, and passed the phone to the owner and because did speak Spanish within a few minutes the owner was comforted to know that her car would be repaired by her, at her costs since it was admittedly her fault.

When any of this friends come down Did loan them a phone and they can always call, if they have a problem. reserve a phone or two and have peace of mind on your next trip to Los Cabos.
Also You can find this Rent A Cell Cabo in the Web searchers like "rentacell cabo" and do Your reservation on line.

Buen Viaje, Mario

Our Verizons work in Baja. Roaming service must be activated before traveling.

Several years, before our Verizon worked, we purchased a Mexican cell phone in San Miguel for about $30 (walked into a phone store, inquired about renting - they didn't rent, so we bought). Bought phone cards at newstands. Used this phone all over Mexico - the Yucatan, Baja, PV, etc. for years. F

Oops - posted too soon. Finally lent the phone to someone who lost it, but it was a great, affordable alternative. Only disadvantage is you won't know your phone number before the trip.
