Honeymoon Help

Hello,

We will be going on our honeymoon in September and are interested in going somewhere tropical. We are both interested in snorkeling and visiting different points of interest. We don't want to just hang out at whichever resort we pick. Nice restaurants and shops are a plus.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Should I even bother looking at the Carribean since I keep reading that September is peak hurricane season?

Thanks

It depends a bit on what you like, I myself like to be free to plan my own day so no all inlcusives. By chance I ended up in Las Terrenas in the Dominican Republic, a place to sit on your porch or in the shade of a palm tree, and discover the rare feeling of being happy just being alive. After a couple of visits, my sister actualy went to live there and when we go to visit her, we stay at Hotel Playa Colibri, by far the most romantic place in Las Terrenas. Their website is www.playacolibri.com. They have a good restaurant, but on the beach nearby are plenty of good choices. If you want to know what other people think of this place, go to Tripadvisor and sear for Playa Colibri.
Don't worry about the hurrican season, it passes by further north of the island, as far as I know, it has never even toyuvhed the island. Hope this info is useful to you, and congratualtions on your wedding!

It's just sooooo risky in September. The last 2 weeks in August too....

Before you get your heart set on any resort check to see if they are open as many resorts/restaurants/shops close during sept-oct. Also the waters may be churned up and rough due to storms. As you know you do not have to have a hurricane to have crappy weather and sloppy seas...it is not the best time to go -- unless you go to the southern caribbean, there you will be out of harms way as the storms tend to pass north of those islands.

Barbados may interest you

With all the stress of getting married, your honeymoon should be something romantic and relaxing. The last thing you need is to worry about the weather cooperating with you. Go with a sure bet and play it safe

Go to Aruba! It's one of our favorite islands and it's outside the hurricane belt, We went in September and had perfect weather.

I agree with the above post. Go to Aruba. A great place for a honeymoon. There are a couple of hotels where you can open your sliding glass door and walk right out onto the beach. The Tamarijn or the Divi Beach Aruba. If you stay at the Tam, ask for a downstairs room. Or the Divi, ask for a Casita. Both open directly onto the beach with wonderful sunsets.

Aruba - Bonaire - Curacao -- outside the "hurricane belt." For some reason I think you should check out Hotel Kura Hulanda in Curacao. It's different.

I would suggest going to a local travel agent and see what kind of suggestions they would have. Alot of hotels and resorts offer honeymoon packages and September is certainly the off season, also make sure you get trip insurance just in case a storm decides to head your way.

Some resorts also offer trip protection so if you can't get to one destination you are offered another location.

Hope this helps have a great time.
