My husband and I honeymooned at Spice Island Inn in 1988 - it was the most beautiful vacation we ever had. We really really really want to go back there next year for our anniversary. I checked the prices to return to Spice Island Inn and I couldn't BELIEVE how steep the prices are!!! More than steep - - completely out of our reach
Well - we've been great ad people for SII over the years - steering plenty of people their way - proclaiming what a wonderful place it is. If the management is reading this board.......how about a discount for some old and almost retired guests who can't afford you anymore?
We'll even wash dishes one night!
Anything just to return to Spice Island Inn!

Hi Dorgal,
I know what you mean. We went to Spice Island in 1996 and had a lovely vacation in one of the beachfront whirpool suites.
They had a huge, extensive remodel a few years ago and positioned themselves as the luxury choice on Grenada. (Keanu Reaves has stayed there.)
The only chance you might have at getting a decent rate would be to go during off off season, or try to win one of the luxurylink.com auctions that bring the cost down to high from ridiculously high.

In season - for the private pool suite we rented - $809 PER NIGHT for a double - about %640 per night in the off season! These are not even the most expensive rooms!

Jeez! What, are they quoting you in EC dollars? In the past 3 years I stayed at sister property Blue Horizons twice, so was able to use the facilties, also toured the new private-pool suites and no way can it command that kind of cash. Beautiful, great service, yes, but c'mon. You could go to Mustigue for that cake. Did management offer any kind of deal or promotion when you inquired?

Nope - this is US dollars! no kidding!
I think that rate includes breakfast and dinner - not sure. No offers yet from the management - why would they..... when they can fill those rooms with people who can pay those prices without a problem. A classic case of the "haves" and the "have nots".

WOW $800 per night !!! We recently stayed at a lovely small resort in Grenada, Bel Air Plantation, and only paid $325 per night for a villa. The advertised rate was $375 but I was able to get a discount by booking directly with the hotel. It is a first class resort but much smaller than Spice Island. With such high rates you may want to look at alternatives.

For what it's worth, I believe that Spice Island is now an all inclusive resort, so the prices you were quoted would include the usual meals, beverages, and activities that most AIs encompass.

I also agree with Diana that you should watch the auction packages at luxurylink.com which sometimes offer substantial savings in the off season.

Just an update on Spice Island Resort in Grenada. The resort was so badly damaged during Hurricane Ivan, it is being totally rebuilt and refurbished as a luxury resort. It is closed for a year, and will reopen in October, 2005.
