Reading as much as I can on the following:

Charleston Place
French Quarter
Harbour View

Any suggestions or Pros and Cons on this list? Looking to keep it around $200 a night but want the Charleston feel. Wife dosn't want a BB.

I stayed at the French Quarter Inn last year for a week. The rooms are very nice , clean and a great location. You are right on the market and can walk everywhere in Charleston from there. The restaurant Tristan was excellent. I would love to go back sometime soon. Have a nice trip. Kathy

Charleston Place is the nicest and highest rated hotel in the Holy City.

It is also in the best location sandwiched between Market and King Street.

Great shopping in the hotel.

You have them listed in the order I'd rate them. If the Harbor View has a harbor view, than the hotel is a little further out for being walking distance as the other two.

All three are fine hotels. Doubt you can stay at Charleston Place for $200 all in price. And all are in walking distance of all of old Charleston. Gardens, forts etc are all going to require a car. Don't know when you are coming, but it's HOT now and will be through August and September.

By the way, you mention wanting the Charleston feel, and these hotels are all modern. You will have a better feel in a B and B below Broad.

Hope this helps. Charleston is a beautiful place.

I have stayed at Charleston Place, and it is wonderful, the nicest hotel I've stayed in in the continental U.S. The ONLY thing I didn't like was that the fire codes did not allow a coffee maker in the room so you had to order coffee from room service at an astronomical price. We solved that by doing a run to the Starbucks across/down the street early in the morning and bringing it back.

Historic area is wonderful for walking trips. Enjoy ! You'll have a grand time.

Another beautiful hotel that was right near Charleston Place that wasn't a B&B but had total Charleston Feel was the Renaissance. It was gorgeous and all extensive hotel amenities w/ a Inn feel. Take a look may be way cheaper than Charelston Place which is VERY pricey.

Don't mean any disrespect however I heard on the news last night that SC is one of the top 10 unsafest states. Should I be afraid in Charleston?

Your previous post was 2004. Have you taken this trip? What were your impressions?

Yes, be very afraid of South Carolina.

Especially if you are a yankee.

I've been living in SC for 20+ years, 10 of those in Charleston. I've never been a victim of a crime. That's not to say it doesn't happen. Just use the same common sense you'd use when traveling any place else.

We stayed at the Frances Marion which is on King St. within walking distance of the market. We paid $75/night in prime season through Priceline. Great hotel but did have to pay for parking, which you will have to do anywhere in Charleston.

I've lived in Charleston SC for ten years. I frequently go out Downtown by myself. I've never had one problem (well my car got "booted" once for not parking appropriately). My young adult children also live here and have never had an issue as well as the many guests I host from living in such a beautiful city.

You may want to check the rates at Restoration on King. Very nice property and well located.

Welcome to Fodors, CagneyBella. While you input is welcome on this thread, do make sure to look at the DATES of previous posts. This one is almost 9 years old! I looked at it because we are going to Charleston for the first time. You info is good to know, but again, check those dates!
