We will be staying in Williamsburg the first part of June, using our Hilton points to stay at a hotel that belongs to the Hilton Family.

Tripadvisor has good reviews on the Hampton Inn & Suites in the Historic District, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Embassey Suites.

Can anyone suggest the better hotel of these 3?

None of these hotels are in the historic district but none are far from anything. Williamsburg is a small town. That said, I don't like the location of the Embassy Suites. It is behind the Kmart. I know the Hilton Garden is right on Richmond Rd within walking distance of a lot of restaurants. I believe that Hampton Inn is also. Have a great trip.

If you can use your Hilton points another time, you should.

By far, the best two choices in Williamsburg are the Williamsburg Inn and the Williamsburg Lodge. Both are steps from Duke of Gloucester Street (the heart of the historic area).

Both also offer a free shuttle bus (for people with passes to the historic area).

Any of those 3 will require you to drive to the historic district...not a big deal. You can park and spend the whole day walking.
What other factors do you consider when choosing a hotel? Kids with you? Do you need the extra room you get with Embassy Suites? Do you prefer the cooked to order breakfast at ES v. the breakfast bar at Hampton? Do you want to save points by going with Hampton? Another Hilton option would be Homewood Suites on Bypass Rd - you get a full kitchen.
Just realize that these are all on a busy road filled with chain restaurants, gas stations, chain hotels, etc.

I'm pretty sure the HI Historic District is located on Capitol Landing Road which puts it in a different part of Wmbg than the other 2 hotels. It's not as straight up tourist central there, a bit more residential but still within 5 minutes drive to the Colonial Williamsburg or the visitor's center.

So all things being equal, I'd go with the HI for a slightly quieter location. If you want to be close to the chain restaurants and the outlets (good shopping!), I'd go with the Hilton Garden. I agree Birdie about the ES.

If $300-$600 a night is your price range , go for the Williamsburg Inn. I wouldn't splurge there but Gekko loves it and is a frequent visitor. The Wmbg Lodge was recently renovated from its painfully 1970s self to a hotel on par with the others you're considering. Absolutely more expensive but steps from the restored area of CW.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. My hubby and I are not big breakfast eaters....cereal, yogurt, toast and coffee. I like the idea of the Hampton Inn on Landing Rd because it's set apart a little from the hustle and bustle of the other places. We'll have a car with us so we don't mind driving a few minutes to the sites or to a decent restaurant. And yes, we need to use our Hilton points in order to be able to make this trip.

We plan to dedicate a whole day and night at Colonial Williamsburg and do the 2 Jamestown sites the following day. None of my travel guide books states how long to allow for each of the Jamestown sites. We would also like to visit Yorktown, but would we be cramming in too much to try and do the 2 Jamestown sites and Yorktown in one day?
