transportation from DCA airport to BWI airport

Trying to go from Washington NationalAirport (DCA) to Baltimore Washington airport (BWI) using bus or train (no taxi or rental car). Is this possible and can you give approx cost? Thanks

Sure, DCA has its own stop on the Metro (subway) system. Take that to the Greenbelt Metro station (1 transfer between lines required), then take the B30 express bus from Greenbelt station to BWI terminal. Total cost about $5. Details available at www.wmata.com

During the week you can take Metro to Union Station (1 transfer) and then MARC (Maryland train) to BWI. On weekends take Amtrak from Union Station to BWI.

If you take the train (MARC or Amtrak) there's also a shuttle from the train station to the airport.

The cost between Union Station and BWI on the MARC train is $6--Amtrak will run a bit more. The shuttle from the train station to the airport is free and takes about 5 minutes or so.

I agree the most with the post of Anonymous (10/30/2008 @ 07:31 pm)

Take the B30 bus ($3 exact, no change) from outside the Southwest baggage area or International Pier) which goes non-stop to Greenbelt.

Change from the GREEN to the YELLOW line as soon as you can .. there will be multiple stops where this can be done, and the sooner before you get to "main" DC the better. "Changing" only means getting off one train, and waiting for another at the very same platform; no extra stairs, escalators, elevators to contend with.

Yellow line stops at DCA.

Hello: Just seeing if the info is still current. If I fly into DCA rather than Balimore I can get a direct flight. (Its cheaper also.) I will be going to the Renaissance Center in Baltimore. Any suggestions?

You'd take the DC Metro (subway) from DCA to Union Station (one transfer), then catch a train to Baltimore.

I'm sure somebody will come along with details about the options from Union Station into Baltimore. You don't want the B30 bus from Greenbelt, that goes to BWI airport.

Thanks. I will only have one bag so I think I would rather take my chances with switching trains in the D.C. area than switching plans in Atlanta. I just wanted to make sure that it was doable before I sent my travel budget to my boss.

I love Fodors!

You say it's cheaper, but how much cheaper. You are going to spend a lot of time--at least two hours--getting yourself from the DCA to downtown Baltimore. It's going to be a planes, trains, and automobiles adventure. Knowing all of that, is the cost savings worth it for you and the company?

The switching planes will take time also. And in January there is a possibilty of cancelations.

If it is a weekday, you may wish to use the MARC train rather than Amtrak should you fly into DCA. Tow MARC trains leave DC Union Station .. The Penn Line goes to Baltimore's Penn Station (as does Amtrak) while the Camdem Line goes to Camdem Yards and the area just west of Baltimore's Convention Center. Check locations and schedules.
