hi all, my wife and I are planning to go to London and Amsterdam next spring. we've been looking all over the internet and go-today.com is the only place we've found that offers a london/amsterdam package. i've never heard of them before so i'm kind of leary. has anyone used them before? if so, was everything ok? any suggestions are welcomed.

Yes, it's a reputable company. If you type in "go-today" in the search box above, you should be able to pull up some past threads on it.

I have used it once myself and that was in 2003.

Most people who contribute here (myself included) tend to plan their own trips rather than buying "packages". I think we usually can find better deals and better hotels than offered in the packages.

In the 1990's we used them twice, both times for the fly/drive package.

However, since you asked for suggestions, mine would be to look into independent travel. Your trip isn't until next spring and there is SO much great information out there that will help you do a trip like that on your own time frame. That means you aren't harnessed into train and bus schedules, or eating at places that can handle large tour groups. All of this is something that you get when you buy into a tour package.

Either way, of course, have fun planning this!

I traveled on packages from gotoday twice and was very happy with them. Both times were two city combinations, and I believe they worked out to be economically sound for us.

Check all the hotel choices for location and look at the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com.

I used go-today for a trip to Paris last February and it was great! DH & I do not get frequent flier miles so the hotel/airfare package from go-today was perfect for us.

It was a little nerve wracking for an oldtimer like me not to travel with reams of paperwork & tickets.
Everything went extremely smoothly, there were no problems at all.

The plane ticket is an e-ticket. So there is no paperwork for that. It is the same thing with the hotel. Just print out the voucher that go-today will e-mail you and present the go-today voucher at the hotel. Everything was exactly as presented on the website.

So all you need to travel when you buy a package from go-today is your passport & 1- 8x11 sheet of paper (the hotel voucher)! And your luggage, of course!

I also found the go-today help line very helpful. There was no significant wait time to speak with an agent. The phones are staffed with live people who are knowledgable & helpful & (forgive me for saying this) speak with a North American accent.

You can also check out travel deals on travelzoo.com but I have not used travelzoo yet.

We used gotoday.com a few years ago. We went to Rome and Venice, we were pleased with the company. The only "extra" we bought was the airport transfer in Rome. Also, we are not too demanding about hotels - if it is safe and clean and centrally located - we are happy. If you want something more upscale then you might consider paying a little more for a better hotel. You can ask for reviews of the hotels they use on this forum or on trip advisor. Have fun!

I would just like to reaffirm every word YK posted. I have read many posts regarding go-today, most of them very complementary of this online outfit. That said, I have always been able to do better pricing by "doing-it-myself". This may be a function of my departure airport and go-today may be able to find you very convenient flights. Often, the flights available for selection are way higher than the price go-today shows on their site. They do have good city-pair combos.

Since go-today went online (many years online which speaks of their reputation), there has been other vacation packages consolidators that have gain some good name; gate1, e-vacations, vacationstogo, etc...Don't forget airlines also offer vacation packages. I bought a Delta vacation package once that included RT from NYC and 4 nights at the Hilton for $636/pp (May travel!!).

I used Go Today for my trip to Prague. Total cost air and hotel (with breakfast) $800 for 4 days. The hotel was beautiful and tho a single I had a huge double room with great bathroom. A couple stops on the subway from Old Town. All went well

I used them a few years ago for a trip to London. The package of hotel and air was better than anything I could put together myself. They were fine, everything as they said it would be so I was happy and considered it a bargain. Since then though I've never found a deal on their site that I couldn't put together as cheaply independently. I went to London a couple years after the go-today trip and was able to do it for less myself that time (plus I liked the hotel better than the ones they were offering). I've also looked at them for Paris, etc. and always found I could do better. But as a company, if you find you like their price, they are fine.

I too have used go-today.com for a solo trip to Prague. I only used them for the airfare/hotel portion of my trip but was very pleased. The rest of the trip was done independently, did not do any tours thru them. Would definitely use them again.

They're only offering 3 nights in each city which isn't a lot of time and this is not a fully escorted tour, it's hotel and air so you would have to do research on the sights anyway or book city tours when you get there.

I think independent travel is the best way for these two cities afterall it's only researching hotels and flights.

The basic packages are for three nights in each city, but you can extend the dates in either or both cities. Both times I did this, I opted for three nights in the first city and five nights in the second one.

Go-today packages aren't economical for me as the add on fees for my area make them no longer a bargain. From the major east coast cities they are great because they don't have the hub add-ons.

As Nikki said, you can extend your days (at beginning, end or both) at no extra airline fee. If you added 3 days at the end, you could train to Brugge (or anywhere else you wanted to visit - even take a budget flight somewhere)on your own and book your own hotel. You would just have to return to AMS to fly out.

I have used them 6 times in the past, I now do my own travel plans, and yes they give you what is advertised. No problems.
