PEI in July
First time visit to PEI with partner and 6 yr old child. Any suggestions on which part of island to stay. We enjoy swimming, biking, love seafood. Any suggestions on nice B&B. We have 7 days to spend. On reading other posts, opinion has it that would be too long for PEI. Any suggestions on combining a second destination. Thank you.

Where are you coming from? That would help with other destinations. As for a six year old, plenty to do in PEI. Cavendish is a great spot - lots of theme parks, water parks, beaches, etc. Does your child know of Anne of Green Gables? Even if no, the play at Confederation Place in Charlottetown would be great! The beaches are wonderful, spend a few days just relaxing - building sand castles and riding the small waves! PEI offers some of the best biking trails - if you are bringing a bike great and if not, I am sure you can rent one!

We are from a suburb of Toronto. We have been looking at traveling by train to get to PEI and it sounds wonderful. We normally vacation outside of Canada but this year thought we would enjoy the beauty of our own country. Would you recommend any particular area of PEI for better beaches? Thank you.

The Cavendish area beaches are most popular - although busy, I still enjoy them! If you are travelling via train, I assume you will rent a vehicle? If not, you should consider - not sure there is local transport that will make the entire island accessible.

PEI has an awsome biking trail system and a goodly number of bike rental shops scattered over the island. Your child would enjoy a waterpark for an afternoon, which is close to Ann of Green Gables and whose entrance fee is quite reasonable.
I suggest you order the free "Doers and Dreamers" guide to PEI. We also used the Frommers guidebook for the Maritimes quite useful.
PEI boasts the oldest operating community theatre in the Maritimes, located in quaint Victory-By-The-Sea, only a few kilometers from the Confederacion Bridge. We stayed the night in Summerside, about 20 minutes away, and attended an evening performance, having dinner at the small restaurant across the street. As for Summerside, it has the College of Pipng which gives free afternoon summer concerts -great introduction to celtic-related piping and dance. While we only stayed on PEI for 3 days, we wished we had had twice that time available to us. So, I agree with maletas that 7 days is not too much if you are looking for a relaxed and picturesque area of your beautiful country.

Hi, You cannot take a train to P.E.I. Those wonderful bike trails are built on the old train lines in fact. there is no public transit on P.E.I. either so my advice would be fly down (maybe cheapest to fly into Moncton or Halifax) and rent a car. The flight shouldn't cost a whole lot more than a train to Halifax and will save a lot of time. If you are looking at staying seven days on the Island look into renting a waterfront cottage for the week. The provincial government has an excellent site. I love P.E.I. and hope you enjoy your stay. My favorite beaches are Greenwich and Blooming Point on the north (white sand beaches) and the beaches on the Argyle Shore (red sand) south shore.

Ahhh .... Blooming Point , Greenich , amazing beaches ! This from a weepy islander living in Montreal . Train is fun to Moncton , then simply rent a car to use on your island stay . happy to answer any questions . Faith
