New Okla. casino just north of Texas state line
Has anyone been to the new casino that just opened in Oklahoma, about 3-5 miles north of the Texas-Okla. border? I recently overheard someone at work talking about it. Is it on I-35? Is there a hotel?

I have been past the casino several times and it always seems very busy. The last couple time I have noticed they are advertising well known singing acts. I have never been inside b/c I always ahve my daughter with me & she is under age. They are building a hotel, but I am not sure if it is finished. You could always stay in Gainsville, Tx.

Go to www.winstarcasinos.com. The name is Winstar Casino. Depending on where you are coming from Gainsville is probably the closest lodging. Gainsville has a Chili's and a IHOP as well as quick places ie McDonalds & Wendys. There is outlet shopping on the north edge of Gainsville if you want to shop. Hope this helps.

I haven't been there yet, but since all they have are machine games, it's unlikely I'll bother to go. One of my friends went, and she said the smoke inside was horrible. Evidently they haven't invested in a Vegas-style air purification system.

I went past the Winstar Casino this past weekend. Progress on the hotel seems very slow. I would not be suprised by the reports of smoke. The casino looks like a great big tent. I was going to stop in so I could report back to you, but didn't since I spent all my money shopping in San Antonio and Austin.

Thanks to both of you for your input. A group of 6 of us from my office were hoping to go last weekend, but we decided to put it off till next month. We don't need a hotel, because we are only a 3-hour drive away. I did check out the WinStar Casino website and found they have 3 restaurants (including a buffet), slots, bingo and OTB. I e-mailed them inquiring about table games, and they replied that the bill has just passed, and they hoped to add blackjack and other table games by September.

Are you aware that there are also other casinos along the highway? There is another one close to Davis, OK, in the Arbuckle mountains. I don't know which way you will be coming from but just an fyi.

Ski4me: We just got back from the Winstar Casino. It ended up being only myself and one friend, but we had a great time. The casino is one hour north of Dallas. Take Exit 1 off I-35, if you are coming from Texas. The casino is very nice -- 1200 slot machines, 2 big rooms of bingo, and off-track betting. Because no alcohol is served, the legal gambling age is 18, except for the OTB. The inside has a circus motif, and there are plenty of nickel slots, and others. (It was really nice that we never had to stand and wait for a machine, like at most of the Louisiana casinos.) We ate at the lunch buffet, and the food was great (!). Prices (at lunch) are $8.50 on weekdays, and $9.50 on Sunday, plus you get a $2 off coupon when you sign up for a players' club card. I didn't make a note of the dinner prices, but I think the highest was $14 on Friday evening. I did see a few people smoking in the casino, but it was nice and cool inside and the smoke wasn't unbearable. By the way, we didn't end up winning, but neither of us lost too much, so all-in-all, it was a good trip.

Because of the rain, the drive to Oklahoma took much longer than it should have, and I found myself with only 45 min. to spend before having to drive back. I ate at the casino's Bread Basket Buffet, which was good (again).
After losing $20 in a dollar slot, I put $20 in a quarter slot called Jungle Juice. After the first spin, I had over a thousand credits! Five minutes later, I commented to the man next to me that I couldn't tell how much I was betting per spin. (I kept pushing Max Bet.) He leaned over and told me I was betting $16 per spin. Aiyeee ... ! I would never have bet than much, had I known. The man said he thought I should cash out while I was ahead. I said that sounded like an excellent idea. I took my casino "credit card" to the payout window. (The machines don't pay coins or tickets; you have to cash out with your card.) The "teller" counted out $448, and I left -- with a big smile on my face!

Hi Donna if your out there. I just ran across this post again. I haven't been yet. Everytime I go to Dallas I have my daughter. For some reason they won't let her in, must be something about being 6yrs old. (just a joke) Was the smoke as bad as Christy from the earlier post thought it would be? I have wondered about that. I wouldn't last very long if it is. Anyway I am glad to see you got lucky!! I would quit too.

The Winstar Casino in Oklahoma is a joke. They have devised other un-ethical ways to seperate you from your money. There system of comps ABSOLUTLY SUCK. There thinking seems to be the more we can aggrivate the customer the better. They care less for there customers and even lesser of their employees and it shows. No alcohol, expect nothing free. You have to pay a 50 cent ante for every single hand of blackjack played. So if you play 10 hands your out $5 just like that regardless if you win, lose or draw. They will lie right to your face and tell you the ante is required by the state. Notice the number of times the dealer will flop a ten in his hand for the up card it is so obvious that its insulting. If you like to be cheated and inconvienenced by all means the Winstar is for you. If not your best bet is Sherevport

wow! Is it possible that dealers would cheat and the casino could stay in business? (by the way, at least 12 spelling/grammatical errors in the preceding--someone corrected mine, so I'm passing on the favor!)

The dealers are nothing more than messengers, exchanging money and handing out cards from a shoe. The trick takes place in the arranged or munipulated decks placed in the shoe. Its all about sequencing. A player counting cards would normally have a system that seperates high value cards and low value, the odds are increased for the player if high value cards are coming out (10's - A's). Normally a dealing shoe will hold 4 or 6 decks. Using a four deck shoe there would be 208 cards (4x52). Denote cards Ace - Ten = "high value", Nine - Seven = "neutral value" and Six - Two = "low value". Then a 4 deck shoe should contain 80 "high value, 48 "neutral value" and 80 "low value" cards. Many people seem to think that a shoe dealt or instant shuffle machines will protect them from a tainted game, because they think the cards can not be munipulated in such a fashion especially when the shuffle machine is doing it's thing right in front of you. Do you think a shuffle machine could shuffle through each card eventually ending up right where it started (watch the second hand on your clock see how it always comes back to the point you started watching it at)If you don't buy that than lets look at what was discussed about high low value cards. This takes no brains or talent to pull off, the house can increase its odds greatly by just eliminating a few Aces and a few 10 value cards. Remember your odds are better of making a winning hand when high value cards are being dealt, when you have to continuely take another hit because your first 2 cards are coming up 12,13,14,15,16,your gonna bust. Remember you have to beat the dealer and the dealer goes last.

I'm an avid Blackjack player and have been going to Winstar Casino on the Texas-OK border for over a year now. My trips to the casino became more frequent when they had the bonus hands, thus giving the player more chances to win money. I always play using a combination of basic strategy and hi-lo card counting as you aptly pointed out in your posting. I always left a winner, never putting more than $100.00 down on the table and walking away with $300.00 to $750.00 each session--regardless of whether I was playing with a shoe or an automatic shuffler. I bet conservatively and up my bet as the true count gets higher. My basic rule is to bet only the winnings and walk away at a stop-loss percentage of my investment. Last week I went two times and lost--I ignored my basic rule! I was at a table with an automatic shuffler and was perplexed by the apparent absence of high cards. For every hi card that came out, there were 10 lo cards. Surely this trend would change and the game would shift to the players' advantage. To my surprise, the dealer never refed the shuffler and all the cards were in the discard tray. "Floor!" I estimated that there were four decks in the discard tray, but was still suspicious by the lack of hi cards. Has anyone ever heard of a casino replacing hi cards with lo cards in an automatic shuffler? This would certainly give the game a high house advantage and would result in devastating losses for the players. I really wanted to ask them to fan the cards out on the table so we could see exactly what cards we were playing with. I'm sure this request would not have been well received by the pitboss.

Their is nothing good about this place and now finally the press has realized what crooks they are also
