Hawaii
Six of us, ages 50-56 are spending 5 days at Honolulu. What are the things we don't want to miss. Also, we are staying at the Ohana Waikiki Malia Hotel. Any information on that? Thanks.

You might enjoy taking the guided tour of the Iolani Palace. It's about $20 pp but it is a great tour - so much history. There's also the Bishop Museum. For some history on Waikiki, there is a (free) tour offered M/W/F at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider Hotel.
Rent a car and drive around to the North Shore. Have lunch (or dinner) in Haliewa. Stop by Dole and enjoy a yummy pineapple ice cream cone.
Be sure to shop in the International Market Place - they're tearing it down next year so you don't want to miss the chance. It's a lot of fun to barter with the vendors. NEVER pay the tagged price - they will ALWAYS go lower, sometimes much lower.
There's a great little (free) show - hula dancers too - on the 3rd floor of the Waikiki Marriott on Monday nights. Starts at 6:30 - no cover charge. They serve food & great tropical drinks.
On F/S/S there's a terrific trio at the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian. They're good and interact a lot with the audience. No cover here either, just buy a drink; they serve food too.
Don't forget to go by Duke's in the Outrigger - preferably before sunset. You can either ask for a table or sit at the bar or on the patio. Great food, drinks and ambience. Great view of the surfers and the sunset.
For a taste of local entertainment, on Saturday nights stop by the Paradise Lounge in the Hilton Hawaiian Village and catch Olomana in action. They are a local recording group and sing everything in Hawaiian, explaining the origin of each song. No cover either; two drink minimum, nice lounge.

As I've mentioned before, if you are from an area that does not have a Chinatown, you should consider a brief tour in Honolulu's Chinatown. Hands down, the most exotic neighborhood in Hawaii, site of the first and, at one time, the largest Chinatown in the United States.
There are several walking tours. The most inexpensive is conducted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday mornings, 9:30 am, $5 per person for two hours with pointers to dim sum parlors, curio shops, noodle shops, herbalists, and all the other merchants that you cannot find any where else in Hawaii. I think that a guided tour of Oahu would be the best way to get to see all of the major sites that have been mentioned above. I took an all day Enoa Tour (Royal Circle Island Tour) and it was excellent.

On our own we did the tour of the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, hike of Diamond Head , and a Luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
