Help with Italy and Slovenia!
Hi all!
I am planning a solo trip to Italy (Veneto) and Slovenia next month and would like your help on the following itinerary:
I am flying to and back from Venice
Marco Polo airport:
- 3 days in Follina ( Veneto), I booked a package in a nice hotel through Luxurylink.
- 2 nights in Ljubljana
- 2 nights in Bled
- last night near Venice airport to catch flight home.
My questions are:
1- is this easily doable?
2- which transport should I take to go to Slovenia and return?
3- do you think I would better stay in Ljubljana all 4 nights and do day excursions to other areas? ( as I am travelling alone I don't want to hire a car)
Any help or sugestions here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Teresa

It looks like you're not giving any time to Venice. Have you been there before? If not I'd add some time there.
The old town of Ljubljana can be done in half a day and you should be able to do it as a day trip from Lake Bled. Check with your hotel for bus times to/from Lake Bled. The town mostly closes up Sunday afternoons so keep that in mind.
Lake Bled is nice for walking but there's not a lot of sightseeing here.
I don't know anything about Follina - what's there that interests you for 3 days and has you not staying in Venice at all.
I've been to Lake Bled, Ljubljana, and Venice and there is no question about what rates the most time (Venice) unless you're into hiking. But you won't be doing that in Ljubljana either.

You can take the train from Venice (probably Mestre)to Ljubljana. How are you getting to a from Follina? By bus?
I assume you must have seen Venice before. Otherwise why are you staying in Follina?

Thanks for your answers! Yes, I have been in Venice before .
I am staying in Follina because I booked a 3 night package in the beautiful hotel Villa Abbazia - http://www.villaabbazia.com/ - and I have a friend who lives in Treviso so she is showing me around.
The package includes transfers to / from Venice airport or train station.
I booked this thinking of spending the rest of the week in Slovenia, as I intended and wanted to go there some day and it's near.

Yes, you can take a train to Ljubljana, although the direct afternoon train from Venice that I took doesn't exist anymore - the only direct train gets in after midnight (see www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml). I enjoyed Ljubljana, and you can do Lake Bled as a day trip by bus. I also did a day trip to the Postojna caves and Predjama castle by car, arranged locally.

Sounds like a lovely plan. I would spend the rest of the week in Lake Bled and do day trips by bus. The tourist office or your hotel can help with bus schedules. Lake Bled is a charming, small town with some shops and restaurants. There's a castle overlooking the lake you can hike up to and a small island with a church in the middle of the lake. There are boatmen on the shore to take you to the island. The lake is small and it's an easy walk around it. I found Lake Bled to be charming and relaxing and the people were very friendly and helpful.
