Vienna Airport to Train Station
Hi everyone. Going to Vienna in March and was wondering if anyone knew how far the train station is from the Vienna airport. I will be landing in Vienna at 9:10AM and was wondering if you all thought I would be able to catch a 12:30 train to Salzburg. This is on a Tuesday and I'm not sure what the traffic situation is like in Vienna. Also, I was planning to book my train tickets via www.raileurope.com...the price for two people roundtrip Vienna-Salzburg is $432...that seems a bit pricey. Is there a cheaper way to go to Salzburg that I'm not aware of? Thanks everyone! Michele

As much as I think RailEurope has its place in the grand scheme of things I would wait and buy my train tickets after arrival...it will be much cheaper.
S-Bahn line #7 (S-7) connects the airport and the "South" station and the trip takes about 27 minutes. From there you can take a Metro to the "West" station where trains leave for Salzburg. that trip takes about 3 hours or so depending on train and time of day you leave.
You can easily get Metro and S-Bahn maps of Vienna by doing a Google seach for it.
Good luck

I cannot imagine a price this high. According to www.railsaver.com - - the RT 2nd class price should be $52 per person; $79 for 1st class (purchasing "there", that is).
I think you can make this transfer with no sweat by taxi - - not as sure about public transportation - - and just buy the tickets at the station.
Best wishes,
Rex

Take the airport bus found just outside the exit door( follow signs). You can pay driver for ticket. Trip takes about 35-40 minutes.
Bus leaves you off at entrance to Westbahnhof.
You can buy tickets for your train for less than 100 euros in station.
You can easily make transfer in time. You can check trains and prices on site posted above or www.bahn.de( they have english directions.
No need for first class seat unless you really want it. 2nd class offers comfort and trip will be about 31/2 hours.
Tuesday would not be a heavy travel day. Try to avoid weekends.

That price of $432 is way out of line. It must be a mistake of some kind. Even Rail Europe has its gouging limits.
The distance from Vienna West to Salzburg is only 317 K and the shortest trips time wise are less than 3 hours.
That price of $432 is so out of range, that I went to the Austrian train web site, the ÖBB, and checked prices.
For one person making one second class trip from Wien West to Salzburg, the cost is 36.50 €.
If one person buys one round trip ticket from Wien West to Salzburg the cost is 73€
If the purchase is for 2 adult round trip tickets in second class with no discount card, the cost is 113.60 €
So it is considerably cheaper to buy two round trips rather than 4 one way tickets, 2 each way. The cost is 113.60 versus 146&euro.
Even first class for two adults, no discount, the cost 177.80€
Trains are frequent. In fact, between 11:30 and 18:00 I counted 12 departures. And you can walk up to the window and buy a ticket.
Even if you miss a train, the next one leaves within 30 minutes until 16:30.
That information comes straight from the mother lode so to speak.
Hope this helps.

Im flying into Vienna at 915 taking taking train from wien westbahninhof at 11:56. When I made reservations I told raileurope this. Now I find out we have to take a bus and its not as close as what it seemed. Any recommendations to get from airport to train and make it on time.
