Must-See/Must-Do's on Southern Caribbean Cruise?

Hi,

We are going on a 7 day southern Caribbean cruise on the Princess Dawn towards the end of November.

All you Caribbean experts, please wage in your opinions on what are the must-sees/must-dos/not-to-be-missed things on each of the islands that we stop by. I've been reading several guidebooks but still it's hard to decide what are the most unique aspects of each island.

In general, we like to snorkel, hike, eat, and are open to try something new and interesting.

The ports that the cruise stop at are:
1) Barbados
2) St. Lucia
3) St. Martin
4) St. Thomas (will try to head over to St. John from there to snorkel)
5) Tortola

Please also advise on how to get to the place you recommend. We prefer to use public transportation instead of renting a car (too time consuming for a day trip?).

Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you all!

JC

Check out the forums at www.cruisecritic.com. There is a Princess forum as well as a ports of call forum and many other forums with a wealth of information. Enjoy your cruise!

I can recommend on St. Lucia stluciajunlgetours.com these people give a wonderful tour of this beautiful Island. They will meet you at the ship. They take you out in an open jeep it is fun, interesting and scenic. Great value for the money. Barabdos we did a beach close by. There is a great terminal where the ships dock. If you just want to do the beach or a tour, it can all be arranged after you arrive.

When we visited St. Lucia we took the ship's tour--combination of land and sea. Bus tour in the AM and catamaran back. It was great fun. In Barbados, if you want to go to a beach or anywhere else, just ask one of the many cab drivers at the terminal. On St. Martin we took a cab (van) to Orient Beach which is beautiful. It cost about $10 round trip. Tortola, we again just took a cab to a beach. The cab drivers on all these islands are very helpful. You can arrange a full island tour or just a ride to a beach. They will come pick you up at a specified time also.

We took a cab to the St. James Club in Barbados for snorkeling. The hotel allows folks to come in and use the facilities. I would speak to the ship's tour people. They can tell you which hotels would allow you to go in and use the beach. In STT, for very good snorkeling, I would head over to Sapphire Beach early before it gets busy

They are both beautiful beaches. Go EARLY--the beaches get very crowded later in the afternoon.
